Anchor text and organic search

There are lots of discussions going around on the topic that Google has moved its focus towards organic search. Observers are sure of the fact that anchor text is losing its way. Any website hosting using the same anchor text everywhere will lose the importance and it will be considered as artificial linking. Will this have an impact on the search engine rankings ?

I heard it 2 years back during "Google Bombing" that it's lossing its importance due to misuse or overuse of keywords but still it is in use, however I agree it will hurt keywords if it's overused.

So this is for incoming links to your website hosting right? Should we make sure to vary the anchor text I take it? If so how much should it vary?

For example, take the phorase and keywords "telephone marketing", would I now need to use phrases for anchor text like "free telephone marketing" or "marketing via telephone"?

None of these make as much sense as the original phrase. Aww, Im confused now. How should we be constructing links again?

The best thing to do with anchor text is write it naturally for users, linking to pages with words of what the page is all about. This would mean normally consistent anchor text in navigation and page content, with a little bit of variation when linked to contextually.

That would seem like it should be safe with Google.

Google Bombing did used to become a bit of a hobby and occupation for some people. So it would not surprise me that Google are continuing to take steps to refine the searches to exclude these problems as it leads to things like Google being used for political and other purposes - such as the google bombing of "George Bush" a couple of years back.

With anchor text your main purpose should be to make proper use of anchor text as that can show the relevancy of your pages that particular keywords represent. For example if you are using anchor text suggesting importance to "telephone marketing" however the specific page content is about "transfer of file from PC to mobile" then the use of "telephone marketing" link anchors will be very less effective.

But say I had one link that I wanted to spread around the internet, to a website hosting about telephone marketing, using the phrase "free telephone marketing" for example.

Would I need to use as many variations on that phrase as possible to avoid being penalized by Google, or would it be ok to use the same phrase every time?

If you are looking for many variations I would suggest you to blend up your content with your targeted keyword phrase, and use as many variations without compromising on readability and integrity of the pages.
