Smile Backlinks - How to get them

Hi friends:

Especially for my Newbie friends who want to do well online!

Wish to write a few techniques on Getting Back-links to your website hosting.

Why getting links to your website hosting is important?
There are many reasons. The most prominent one is, it determines how your website hosting is going to rank in search engines. The phrase in the link (the keyword/s which are 'underlined' in the link) - also called "anchor text" - is very important. (More about this later.) Getting many incoming links to your website hosting, especially from good website hostings, therefore, is very important for the following reasons:
  • Exposure to your site.
  • Getting targeted traffic (very important if you intend to sell products & services).
  • Getting the 'spiders' to visit your web site hosting - especially if your web site hosting is very fresh, get a few backlinks from 'friendly', very busy, established, & high-ranking website hostings. If you can get backlink from well-established (if possible, from your own niche) .edu & .gov sites, then your Page Rank will jump significantly in very short time. Do it judiciously though, it can also backfire if the search engines suspect any 'Black Hat technique'! REMEMBER, the content on your web site hosting must also match the quality of the links - especially coming to you from these highly rated website hostings. In other words, I am supposing that your web site hosting contains very good, unique, and quality content, with some traffic already coming your way.
  • Getting an edge over your competitors!
  • Higher Page Rank!!, etc.

Links are of at least 3 types:
  1. Outgoing links - The links that point to external pages - to web pages outside your website hosting.
  2. Internal links - links to your other pages on your website hosting, or pointing to some other part on the same page.
  3. Incoming links or Backlinks - links coming especially from other website hostings to your site/pages.

There are also a few other categories of links, especially external links, and they are:
One way links, reciprocal links (done mostly through mutual exchanging of links), 3-way links (to "fool" the search engine into thinking the links as 1-way linking strategy), quality links, etc.

External Links are like "Votes" - or "unbiased 3rd party votes".

*** more later...

Hmm, almost forgot the importance of detecting the 'dead links'!

A website hosting with dead links (links out of sync, leading to nowhere, could have negative impact on the page rank (they could also be out-of-date old links - the target pages, or even the anchors on the page, are either deleted or renamed). Use the 'Link Checker' tool to detect any dead links.

Google ranks a web page when it finds number of quality links from other sites, and the anchor texts of the links, amongst other factors.

The anchor text is that part of the link which we see 'underlined' on the page. You should have your top and relevant keywords of your web page/site in the anchor text. These keywords that the link contains has the greatest importance in Google's algorithm.

Again, if your page gets back-links from quality sites extremely fast, then there is a chance that Google might suspect foul and de-list your page. So, the age of your page is also a deciding factor.

Tip 1: Under normal circumstances, a PR6 incoming link is worth 125 to 130 PR3 links. A PR4 incoming link is worth 5 to 6 PR3 links. A PR7 incoming link is worth more than 600 PR3 incoming links. Let them come from relevant sites. Have relevant high-quality content and keywords (single or phrase) on your web page. Therefore, your on-page optimization should be of the highest class and Google will 'understand' why these other high-quality sites are linking to your page/site (when I say 'your site', it is usually the index/home page of your site.)

Tip 2: Ideally, the linking page should not have more than 50 out-going links from that page.

Tip 3: There should be no "nofollow" tag on the links.

Tip 4: The linking page and your web page / web site hosting should ideally have relevant content.

Tip 5: Link building is a difficult task (considering you are not 'paying' for the incoming links). You should aim to get the equivalent of 30 PR3 incoming links (see Tip 1). [e.g., per month at least 30 PR3 links, or 5 links of PR4, or a combination of 1 link of PR5 and 1 PR4.]
This is not hard and fast rule. But, this can be your aim which can be achieved. The result will be satisfactory when Google updates the Page Rank globally next time.

You can use the Google Toolbar (free from the Google's website hosting. Just google search the term 'google toolbar download'). It will show the PageRank of every page that you view. It will show the display in numeric form on a scale of 10 -- either it will display 'No PageRank information available', or will display the value range from 0 (low page rank) to 10 (highest page rank). Just hover the mouse cursor on the menu-item 'PageRank' on the Google Toolbar to see the page rank of any web page. If you are using Firefox, you can download many plug-ins which can display many Search Engine Optimization related information.

IMPORTANT:
From a search engine's perspective, a 'natural' and relevant link - preferably with your keywords in it - is of the highest value. (Natural link: People point (link) to your page voluntarily because your page contains highly informative and important article, and they are placing your link on their web page due to the high quality material on your page). Type of an artificial link is the reciprocal link, link that is 'paid' for, etc. where the webmaster has worked consciously to 'swipe' it.

I must be a bit thick - but I don't understand the secret. I do hope it's not the equivalent of putting a link to your web site hosting on loads of forums etc

More On "Backlinks" (Inbound/Incoming links):

The major search engines, especially Google, has to maintain their reputation as the top-quality search engine. It earns huge revenues because their search engine is reliable and respected. So, one of their important task is to see if the web site hosting (example: yousite.com) they are diplaying to their SE visitor (on their top SE results) is having authority (reliable content) or not. The authority of a webpage also depends on how many other quality website hostings are linking to that page.

Google, in grading webpages, therefore, checks whether the website hostings' (webpage's) incoming links are one-way quality inbounds (Google likes this), or the links are reciprocal or bought (Google dislikes this, it questions its own reliability and repution by giving high positions in the SE results. These low-quality linking methods will directly affect Google's reputation too).

So, dear readers, don't go for such shortcuts of getting backlinks by using reciprocal links or using link farms, etc. Google cannot be wrongly influenced by such methods. Also, it constantly uses better techniques to protect its own reputation. The search engine definitely will find out the reasons of why other pages are pointing/linking to your page -especially if you are moving too fast in the upward direction.

So, concentrate on your content and inbound traffic. If your web site hosting has good quality content you'll definetely be noticed by good quality sites, and they'll link back to you. It will take time, but you'll definitely have a very good web site hosting by that time.

Lastly, my personal advice to the newbies is:

When Google "suggests" some do's & don'ts, please do not take those suggestions lightly! Google' suggestions should be followed like "rules" if you want to be on its "good" side! A new web site hosting can never "cheat" Google with blackhat techniques to rank higher, or even earn more from Adsense...

To get backlinks one of the holistic approach should be best to produce great content that have something unique, entertaining and useful, which can create word of mouth and people would like to link back.
