It uses Google's custom search but with a black background to reduce the use or power from the users' monitors.

According to them due to the use of Black background color, 750 Megawatts/hour could be saved per year. This is because more powers are used to display a white screen than black screen.

The porn/gaming website hostings use mostly black backgrounds with light text, if my wife will see from long distance I am sure she will think I am browsing a porn website hosting. Also I hardly spent at most 30 minutes for google, how it would save that much Megawatts/hour? Just wondering!

It might be saving a lot of power in the end using the black background but its really disturbing for my eyes causing strain so with that color scheme I won't be searching for stuff for a long time I guess.

Yes the green text on a black background puts a lot of strain on the eyes while reading but their intention to use such a color scheme was to reduce eye strain.

Haha... I think they didn't do a proper research before implementing that color combination but for the power saving part I think they did well.

Just curious of what excuse you must be giving to your wife or is that all right with her.

I think you are lucky to have an understanding wife like your's otherwise there are females who get offended if they find their male partners watching porn making them feel insecure.
btw that's a good verse in the end though I was unable to discover its relation to the post.

Release your inhibitions!!!

There are way too many rules in life these days!!

And on the Black Google thing, good idea but black is just not as attractive as white and there are far more other ways we could save way more power like by turning lights off, turning heating down, not leaving the TV on standby - need I go on? These are all things that would help without affecting us but they are rarely done.

They are being done more often now because more people are becoming aware of global warming. To be honest I like the invention - will be using it more often (darkoogle).

lol @ thomas.

Yes more people are aware, but less people care (or give a .... to put it bluntly!) - as far as everyone is concerned it won't affect them too much before there dead - sad but true.

I personally will not make less trips by car as the car is my convenience - which I have to pay extortionate road tax on, insurance through the roof, congestion charges, ridiculous car park prices and with the public transport network being about as reliable as Her Majesties Revenue and Customs is with keeping private details private I have no reason to give it up.

Equally when its dark I will turn a light on, if I want a 40 inch TV I will have one and watch it when I want and if I want 50 cups of tea a day I will have them :P. [/rant]

lol! Nice post there!

a) You are totally correct - people don't really care about what saves 0.005% of light power whatever per second, minute or whatever - it's also the hard to believe fact that what is 0.005% going to do for the environment? Going a bit off-topic - or in-fact I am still on-topic - why have individiauuals been telling us for about a few years now about the enviornment - but only recently the big companies have started to care? You see, this is what I don't get.

b) Yep, I won't stop either. I will turn a light on when it's dark instead of a small lamp. There WAS something said on the TV quite a few months back that said they'd release some kind of thing into the atmosphere that'd break down the particles that are causing the Earth all the problems. Quite frankly, we ARE the problem .
