Default Do Meta tags still have life in them?

Does Meta tags still have some life left in them that can be considered relatively important factor by SE ?

IMO search engines use a wide variety of factors to determine website hosting rankings so optimizing a website hosting to rank high is a cumulative effort. One should use everything available that the engines might give some importance, and therefore one should certainly use meta tags along with every other technique available. It may help boost the website hosting a bit in those engines that still read them. Even if it doesn't work, it won't hurt the rankings though.

I think one cannot guess life of any component that involves for search engine ranking as one can not predict changes in search engine ranking algorithm by SEs.
Meta Tag phrases and keywords should not be prioritized for Search Engine Optimization concerned. If you have other better SEO things I would say, do not spend more time on meta keywords. You can use meta keywords in spare time and keep them very relevant to the page content as right use of Meta keywords does not harm.

Search engines like Google don't use Meta Keywords, it uses content on your website hosting instead to rank it. But Meta Keywords are still used by smaller search engines, and it's still better to use them that not at all.

The way forward these days seems to be using Search Engine Optimization programs like vBSEO for vBulletin for example here: www. vbseo.com
Which in simple terms converts your forum pages in much more search engine friendly pages which can be indexed much better.

If you ever want to check how many pages you have listed in Google use this below in there search to list all pages indexed on your domain.

site:domain.com

example:
site:eukhost.com

Pay Per Click Advertsing The Future

As more businesses come online Search Engine Optimization competition is hotting up. Google already implements a 'Sandbox' which will see new website hostings get very little traffic for 8 to 12 months after going live. The sandbox is a 'holding pen' for new website hostings. Google introduced the sandbox as a means to monitor and control new website hosting listings. This was introduced as a defence against the rash of Spam website hostings that where appearing across the Net.

This being the case don't expect a good ranking or any traffic from Google for a long time after your new website hosting goes live.

Well, thanks for your reply. Though I hope google doesn't take meta tags too seriously.

Ask any link building maniac and he'll tell you that you need the meta-tags. As some of you said already, Search Engine Optimization programmers are working with everything they can in order to get a higher rank to a page.

Even if Google does or does not use Meta tags for ranking your site. It sometimes does use the META description tag as the snippet of text under your page title in the SERPs.

So getting this right will increase the number of click throughs you get as this is the first thing that a potential visitor will see before visting your site.

Today I see Meta as the main thing for the snippets listed in the engines. Granted they do use them somewhat in rankings however it's backlinks which really count as far as that goes as well as if these links continue to appear and grow or if it's a "one hit wonder".

Not having META tags on your website hosting is a bit like building a brick wall around your website hosting.

I do think Google uses them, but only to an extremely small extent. What's more important is the content on your pages. Make sure your important keywords are not too far down in the page, as they will be considered less important. This is also the case with extremely large pages, not many search engines will scan the whole page for keywords, and will only use the first two hundred lines.

Agree with that. Keywords as well as backlinks really help. I know from experience getting a web site hosting featured in the news helps to pull it up massively in the search engines.

Yes, but that all depends on what type of News :P Local or national?

You'd have to do something quite good to get on National news, lol

Nope, this was to do with the University Chorus. But it has also helped with the JB one.

Meta tags are still considered by some search engine. It also helps to attract visitors depending on how attractive is your meta description.
