Participating in Search Engine Optimization chats, starting with the blog with same domain name, Posting some good articles which should lead to discussion, can help at some extend. Participating in other Search Engine Optimization forums where you could show your knowledge and make other users convince to join your forum board is also helpful technique to improve the number of users on forum. these are all said rules to bring traffic on forums. try to find some unsaid rules aswell, they may help you to generate traffic in better ways.

As you are starting a Search Engine Optimization forum, you must be well aware of Search Engine Optimization techniques such as Directory submissions, Blogging, Forum postings etc and I think these techniques will help you to drive more traffic to your Forum.

Well, if you are planning to launch Search Engine Optimization Forums then you should not ask the question about how to get traffic to that forum?

However since you have asked, I would suggest you to work hard on the quality contents of the blogs, get quality links, work on directory submissions, participate other forums and introduce yourself with your forum's link. Hope that would help you getting more traffic.

I think Social networking is the most effective way to promote your website.

Social networking can certainly help in increasing traffic on your Forum. There are number of Social networking sites available with millions of users and you can drive those visitors to your forum by communicating with them. Also, you should concentrate on the content of the forum and introduce new threads with interesting topics which will attract users to your Forum.

To get traffic to forum, participate in other Search Engine Optimization forums and put your links in your signature. This will benefit you by both ways, other forum members will know about your forum as well as if the forum is dofollow then it will be consider as a backlink. Also, you can do banner exchange with similar forums. Participate in social bookmarking and networking sites and join groups like Google & Yahoo.

It's obvious, if you don't have knowledge you can't get success in that thing. To get knowledge about it i have asked this question as i don't have much idea about it.

Thanks for everybody's suggestions. I will definitely work on those things.

Post Quick Points

Hey, quick list...

1. Regular new content. If it is a new site/blog/forum you want a new new/page every day if possible. However a new site could get away with one every 2-3 weeks and build up traffic slowly.
2. Drop the link everywhere in conversation when possible especially on social network sites or Twitter i.e. I'm using a greate traffic sharing web site called click4click.co.uk

(that is my website! See how I done it. It suits this content and is still on the subject. It's not really spamming or advertising as such providing you are contributing to the forum and being a genuine user.

3. Try to get other people to participate and add the content for you. For example right now I offer free registration to many website of different topics and people can submit articles that include a link back to their site or advertising. You could do the same with forum topics and allow webmasters restricted admin access to create and moderate their own threads maybe?!

4. People on forums love signatures and if your running a forum you better have a good one! Get one designed if your not a graphics designer and have it on your PC ready to upload to every forum control panel you use. Forum users like forums so its the perfect audiance for a paid signature.

5. Schedule debates or live discussions that you know people are going to attend. This might come later but getting multiple people together at the same time on a forum can be hard. If achieved however a thread can go mental! Those users will come back for more one day because we all like a hot topic.

There is a lot more ideas but overall don't expect it to be busy instantly especially when you face so much competition. If you can find some sort of niche or angle like something you can offer others cannot then this helps. If you have the funds at anytime paying for someone to write great articles is good.

hope that helps

What an interesting thread. If you are starting a Search Engine Optimization forum, you should use Search Engine Optimization techniques to drive traffic. Perhaps a Search Engine Optimization forum is not quite the niche for you yet? Just an observation.

One suggestion that I haven't seen mentioned is to tag your threads and posts. You would be amazed at how these keywords are picked up even more so in your tags, than just in your posts. Encourage your posters to do the same, it can make a big difference.

Emmielyn that's a good point, tags are "clickable" and it has also Search Engine Optimization importance, it can provide even better search results than the "Advanced Search" mode in forums.

I don't think other forums will allow you to promote your forums that way, yes you can use your signature which can help you somewhat in improving your visibility and traffic.

Page rank is page rank, it does not going to help you in SERP's I would suggest you to follow the discussion of this ongoing thread and check other relevant threads in both Online Business & Search Engine Optimization section at this forum, I am sure you'll find some good suggestions there which has been already discussed.

Social bookmarking (delicious, digg, reddit, mixx) and social networking are good source of traffic.

Yes but the traffics are temporary, users generally take a brief view of your content if the headline is appealing and start surfing on to the next item...
