If we speak about Search Engine Optimization, I think those links that we get from Blogs are more important. However from EUKs site I think Forum links are more valuable. Whenever I try to search any information on Google, most of the times, I get some or the other page of EUK forum.

I think the main reason we wish to have a Backlink from Forums is the fact that Forums generally have a good Page Ranking and if we get a backlink from a Forum which has a good Page Ranking, it is certainly good for our websites Search Engine Optimization.

Every backlink has its own value no matter whether its from forum or a blog, make sure backlinks should be from most relevant website/webpage of your niche. Relevancy is important factor which should be considered when try to get backlinks.

Alternatively try out to find what makes a link more valuable? In my opinion, the links from more powerful page/deep pages with great relevancy and co-citation should be considered quality backlinks.

The usefulness of the link depends on the page rank and relevancy of the website. Whether it is an article, blog, forum or directory site, a link from it will not be useful to you unless it is relevant to you and the page rank of that website is good. You should also check out how old the domain is and how popular it is in users. Given below are some common mistakes people make when getting a backlink.
- People do link farming, which affects their own website as well. Link building with relevant site is very important for external linking structure of your site.
- Big sized Image or banner links and linking from adult sites, illegal drugs sites or irrelevant sites.
- Linking on too long keyword phrases and long text. E.g. “Search Engine Optimization Specialist offers Expert Search Engine Optimization Services”
- Linking on “Click Here”, “About Us”, “View My Site”, “Contact Me” these types of anchor links are not suitable.
- Submitting to low page rank web directories in wrong categories, buy links from bad link selling portals, articles sites etc.

Thank you for the above post marksbsteam. It is certainly helpful. Many website owners on the Internet want Backlinks for the website but don't concentrate on the above points and the result is No improvement in Rankings or Even Fall in Rankings which can also be seen in some cases. Also, it is recommended that you do not hire an Search Engine Optimization company for the Search Engine Optimization work of your website and do the SEO work of your website on your own which would bring better results and would avoid the above Mistakes which are Mostly seen when one goes for an SEO company for the SEO work of the website.

If you ask me, IMO any link from a quality and niche website is good from an Search Engine Optimization perspective. But if made to choose between the four I'd choose (in descending importance) - Blog
- Forum
- Article
- Directory

In my opinion, as long as the link is relevant, it could help the search engine optimization. This could be the link for article, blog, forum or even a website. As long as as it is the appropriate link, it will surely have a positive effect on the search engine rankings.

So true !! Re-uttering the words, it is important to build backlinks from relevant sources. At the same time, what most Search Engine Optimization professionals fail to do it maintain a track of the backlinks that were built in the past. There are numerous instances where there have been changes done to the websites where your link was placed. But, due to the changes they get disappeared resulting in a decrease in backlinks hence a waste of your efforts.
