I am not sure but think it must have finished now because I heard it has started in April and many people discussing that their site’s Page Ranking updated but some website hostings are still unchanged.

I don't think the Page Ranking update has completed yet, at least not the toolbar PR update.
According to http://www.seocompany.ca/pagerank/pa...date-list.html As of August 29th, there has not been a Toolbar Page Ranking export for 121 days.

I have not seen anybody on forums or boards whose Page Ranking is changed. I have heard that backlinks update is going on but no news on PR update yet.

Update: Matt Cutts says "As far as the toolbar PageRank, I definitely wouldn't expect to see it in the next few days. Probably not even in the next couple weeks, if I had to guess".
More delay due to lot of testing on algorithm part, probably may be in the last week, we may expect.

Indeed the update has yet to occur - however to also quote from Matt Cutts blog:
"The views expressed on these pages are mine alone and not those of my employer."

Well, but I don't think his blog is anymore personal, he is google man and he might be knowing everything atleast he can throw out some prediction.

not sure whats going on with google's algorithm but some major changes are going on. Fortunecity was blessed with dozens of signups daily as it was on first spot for years for "web Hosting" keyword but now it has been pushed on the bottom of first page.
Everything else over there above fortunecity seems to be crap as most of those are Web hosting review website hostings or commission junction affiliates. Google is spoiling its algorithm and that would make huge impact on those who trust google for search results.

Its sad that there's no such Unbiased / uninfluenced Search Engine on the web. not sure why someone would like to go through all CJ affiliates while searching for a Web Hosting company. All those crap companies pay $120 per lead so these few high ranked website hostings are earning more than what hosting companies earn.
Never thought that competition would make people pay $120 to get a signup worth $7.95 per month.

How do you get an unbiased unifluenced search engine? - all search engines are influenced by power and money (like a lot of commerical sites).

Yep, the search engine is being commercialized and going beyond the scope of just searching the web, it is moreover a commercial advertising medium now.

The best search engines are the ones that are doing things good, just becoming successful, like Google was a few years ago when at first it is run for the customers rather than the money.

Yep. That remind me this quote; ...you shall seek all day ere you find them, and when you have them, they are not worth the search.. -William Shakespeare

I like that quote paul - I'm gaining quite a quote collection at the moment! Its amazing how things said by people such a long time ago still stand today - and it isn't coincidence that these people are also intelligent!

I think there has been a marginal drop in quality of the search engine results in recent times but I think it's got more to do with the nature of the web, and the speed at which it is growing. Add to that the ever increasing number of users, e-commerce, targeted marketing, social networking, the commercialization of search engines is bound to happen.
