Search Engine Optimization origins

I found something that I thought was kind of neat. Back in the old days apparently, it became plain that the way to the top of the listings was to repeat your keywords over and over and he who repeated the most won. We've come a long way haven't we?

In earlier days meta keywords were considered to be an important factor.

Behind that simple search engine a most complex technology & varieties of infrastructures are involved. I think the current search engine algorithm is much more advanced, you need to work hard to achieve better ranking.
