Yes, indeed one of the main criticism of AWstats include log data analysis of non-human traffic that completely disrupts web statistics. An old primitive method, page tagging works by including page tags that calls the server logs when a normal browser visits a page, not a bot. i.e. it will exclude human traffic. However, this approach missed information which was essential to the management.
AWstats provides automated traffic and reports and at the same time maintains separate data from human user report. Web Log analysis can be reported objects and cannot easily read through tags, such as tags and binary document files.
