Edinburgh Airport Fire Service CommunityWebsite Hosting
As some of you know, I'm a full time firefighter here in Scotland.
Best mate is a firefighter with BAA Edinburgh Airport Fire Service.
They recently approached me to see if I could come up with a basic web site hosting for them to get the message out for their community involvment.
They have strong links and ties with the local community and get involved with charity event's which this web site hosting is designed to showcase.
As you can see, it's very much "Under Construction" just now, but the basic layout is there.
We intend to have a gallery and forums up and running soon.
As I said, it need's a few tweaks here and there, but what do you reckon so far?:-

Nice colour scheme, nice site. I can't find anything wrong with it; just one thing to note though, the font that you've used (I've forgotten it's name) doesn't work on all machines unless it is installed locally, so in some cases the test may come up in the OS default font.

Thanks Josh.
Yeah, the font is Eras Medium ITC. Thanks for the "heads up" on that point. Will look into sorting that out.
I've just ran it through the W3C XHTML validator again after making a few changes and additions to it and its coming up as not XHTML 1.0 Validated with a couple of errors which I'll need to attempt to sort out.

Just swapped it over to the font:-
Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif
About to upload the changed pages/fonts.
A pity, as I really thought the Eras Medium ITC looked nice, but I would need to check what it defaults to on users who do not have it installed on their systems if I was intent in keeping the Eras font.

Eras Demi works fine on Vista, but I remember viewing a web site hosting that used it on an XP machine and it defaulted to Times New Roman (the default Windows font AFAIK).

Yes, our PC's at work at the fire station do that to a couple of other site's I've done recently, default to Times New Roman.
Must remember to take this into consideration in future!!.

Nice Site
Nice Site, Good looking, good colors.
Things that I would like (Search Engine Optimization perspective):
Images should be renamed to something like "Edinburgh-airport-fire-service-engines-photo.jpg", "Edinburgh-airport-fire-personnel-photo.jpg", etc. instead of "logo2 copy copy.jpg", "smallgrp1.jpg", etc. At least one H1 html tag, some "bold" keywords, meta tags, keywords, web site hosting map, robot.txt (I don't know if it is present), etc.
Also, I don't think the web site hosting is submitted to any search engines. And, last but not the least, work on the "under construction" pages fast. Put at least some raw information there.
Aesthetically, the menu items should not be in italics.
The above is my humble opinion though.
As I said, the web site hosting is really beautiful, and almost looks as professional as the great service too. Just need to "twick" here & there.
Good job!

Thanks.
I've not even started on Search Engine Optimization yet and at the moment the web site hosting is really just up online to see how it looks. Will go through the usual SEO steps as soon as I get the full web site hosting working and set up with the content required ( which to be honest, I'm still waiting for from the guys at the AFS ).
I did actually intend pulling it back offline till more work was carried out on it and just leaving a "holding" page up there but have not done so as of yet.
Will change the menu items from italics and see how it looks, I was trying to keep the text all the same format, but I know what you mean.
Cheers.

It is really a very good site. Even I have put many 'place-holder' articles on my website hosting just to get the web site hosting in the search engines, to build up the 'skeleton', and to possibly get some "rank"! I also use the same old technique of putting the raw site up first, for some brain-storming, & for getting into the search engines initially, and then work gradually on the finer aspects of SEOing the entire site, putting up original unique content (whatever that means! LOL), linking, back-linking, keywords, meta, graphics, etc.
So, it is perfectly okay initially to just ignore these finer aspects and concentrate on the job of putting up the web site hosting & a few articles, and then really work upon making the web site hosting a 'Masterpiece'
It is also natural, because initially, it is only you & your friends who are the 'great targeted visitors'
Also, I knew from some Search Engine Optimization tools that this web site hosting is very fresh & is yet to be submitted to search engines in a big way!
Fine web site hosting though! I will definitely view it periodically to see how it comes up! Wish you the very best!
 Keep smiling

Well, I've just got a CD with a load of pictures and content for the site.
I'm going to work on the gallery page tomorrow and add some more to the web site hosting itself, as well as a few short video clips which I intend to have embedded into it ( no idea at this point how to do that, but I can't see it being that difficult to do ).
I've managed to add a better "header" graphic which now has the Airport Fire Service badge on it.

Nice site, very good considering its under construction. Got all the basics down. The only thing I noticed was a 404 on the forums but thats about it. Well done, good effort!

Thanks David, appreciate you bringing that to my attention, I had forgotten about the link to forums at the bottom of the pages.
BAA don't want any "forums" available on the web site hosting just in case of any major incidents whereby the press and media may well look at and ask questions on, so we decided not to have forums although it was an initial option. I will change that link on the bottom of the page ASAP, and once again thanks for highlighting it as I had totally forgotten about that inactive link!!!.

No problem Gaz, glad I could help. Its a habit I have over many many years on the web. When I was younger I always used to tinker with settings in Windows and see what they did and on the Internet on a new web site hosting I always have a little play with things and click on as much as possible .
Also, congratulations on validating both your CSS and your XHTML - its a great achievement for a website hosting and shows that it has been designed with care and quality.

Looks pretty nice! I think you may also wish to add fire prevention tips and fire fighting equipment such as fire hydrant system, fire alarm system or extinguishing system likewise.
