Wedding website I did for my best mate
Hi all.
I've just completed a wedding website hosting I made for my best mate's wedding at the start of October.
I was one of his best men at the wedding ( he had two best men and yes, we are both in the pictures....I am the one with hair on my head.....LOL!!! ) and I thought it would be a nice surprise for him and his wife.
They are over the moon about it, which is nice.
We are starting to get more pictures coming through from various guests who attended and they are being added to the gallery page as they come in via email. My mate has sent out thank you cards to everyone who attended, with the contact email address to send the pictures to, so everyone can see everyone elses photos of the day.
The web address is:-
www.robinandsarahswedding.com
I'm having a little annoying issue with the nav bar on the gallery page, but I'll post a seperate thread regarding this in the Tech section of the forums.
For now, what do you think?. It didnt take too long to knock up, its uploading the photos that takes the time!!!.

I like it! Think it works very well for what it's designed for. I'll try and look into the tech issue when I have a bit of time tomorrow!
Well done!

images on homepage were not clear so first thing tried was to click on those to see enlarged copy. There's no other way to see those image in real size so you need to look into that.
Another most important thing is to name the images in photo gallery. Overall design looks beautiful

Roger that.
Was thinking the same thing. I need to either sort out those small pics so they are a bit sharper looking or have them "clickable" so they can be viewed straight from the main pages themselves.
Appreciate the feedback, thanks.

Cheers !
Make sure that if you make them clickable then the enlarged picture should open as a popup or in new window

I'm glad that's two of us who have similar ideas about the use of popup/new windows Mark! One of my computing friends is dead against them but I can now tell him the infamous Mark of EUKhost is on my side!

If you redirect your visitor on next page then you loose his focus from your previous page and he may not come back on your main webpage. Redirects are harmful.
There's nothing wrong with on-click popup windows or open in new window option as your main page will stay open on your visitors computer untill and unless he chooses to close it manually.

I agree with Mark, the redirects are harmful, visitors may loss the attention and that can break their expectation, Exceptions can be used in only exceptional situations.

Yes, you definitely are right on this one. Pop ups are generally a no-no but for things like enlarging images they are a must in my opinion .

It does all depend on what you're using them for. I have an interesting one at the minute as I'm going through design stuff for my business and I've made some differently formatted pages. I have a screenshot of each of these on the main page and I'm in two minds as to whether to have the demo page load in a new window or the same one... I'm tempted by a new window simply as it is basically a bigger version of the image....

The only way that I think it is reasonable to show a larger image in the same window is if you actually create a page with the navigation and feel of the web site hosting built into it. Just linking to the larger picture is confusing for other users who might not be as technologically knowledgable as some and it annoys me on sites as it is inconsistent and looks extremely unprofessional.
It is a classic school boy error in my opinion.

Well if you look at www.checker-design.com/design, you can see what I've done. I'm in two minds about the new window thing for it. Sometimes when I look at it I think it should have it while other times I think it shouldn't.....

You've made the right decision! New windows are less annoying than they used to be now we have tabs. I set the option in Firefox to always open a new tab rather than a new window so it is even more convienient.
