Default Yahoo Free unlimited storage

Now my first question is will any other free email service provider ever be able to match Yahoo's unlimited storage? Does it really make any sense to give all its user unlimited storage? The average user doesn't use the entire 1G that was offered by Yahoo, much less to give them unlimited storage, which most people will never have the use for. Another thing is when you give unlimited storage people tend to keep unnecessary emails that they would not normally keep, but they now keep them because they don't have to worry about a full mail box anymore. Or maybe all this is just a marketing ploy because yahoo knows that most of its users will never use more than even 5gigs.

What do guys think about this unlimited storage??

Precisely . . . GMAIL, YAHOO and all the other free email providers know that most users would never ever fill up their quota of 1GB, 2 GB et al . . . Leave alone unlimited storage.

Just for the sake of an anamoly, they could create scores of such email accounts on one single Q6600 server . . . wont cost them too much in terms of infrastructure OR for that matter resources. (cant help thinking like that )

We are living in an era of hype, hoopla & largesse. Thats the whole idea of it. One day we ourselves would get tired of seeing mails running upto 5 pages & delete them all at one go!!

I doubt in reality when push comes to shove it will be "unlimited". I'm sure if I kept sending and recieving attachements that in total were something like 30TB they would start placing limits on their "unlimited" service!!

I use Yahoo! Mail as well... and the day they offered this I read it on their blog. I was quite surprised, but not too surprised well... because it's Yahoo! we are talking about. Quite a good offer but ridiculous because no one would use more than 1G of space - precisely.
