Nice job in a tricky situation
Congratulation for the way you dealt today with the code injection by a 14 years old kid. Problem was sorting rapidly and efficiently. Automatic cleansing was initiated and problem solved same day. I can only imagine that support was innondated by customer requests, but I received a response to each of my E-mails and each issue reported was addressed.
Congratulation for an excellent job in a difficult situation.
Regards. Eric

thanks Eric !
some of your words make us feel good but "14 year old boy" makes us lil uncomfortable. 14 year old kids after 10 years from now will be more intelligent and they will try to make more mess on the web as no one would go in remote locations of certain countries to catch them and they will find more fun in it.

I'm young... but I certainly don't go around injecting websites with crap, what would the point be in that? What fun do hackers get from doing it, is it the thrill of causing inconvenience?

even I am young though I have celebrated 28 birthdays by now
I never said that all young people are into this thing but those who have no direction and no targets set by this age then they are bound to look for thrill and fun.
You are looking to establish your business and you have good number of customers which makes you a responsible person.
those who have no directions and no guiardian have maximum chance of going in wrong direction.

I won't say how young I am... you'll probably kick me off eUKhost + the forums or something like that...
Surely if you have stuff like anti-virus and the full monty, they wouldn't be able to do anything bad to your server?

I hope you are above 13
if not then it would be difficult for me to believe that someone can be so good with ASP.NET below 13.
for your information, anti-virus works for windows only as virus makes no problems on Linux. you can host as many Viruses's you want on Linux and they will stay there in peace.
Architecture of both is totally different so one needs to learn few things about Linux as well as Windows to differentiate.

I'm 13 (well 14 in like 2 months)... I've been using ASP.NET for the past 1 year - 18 months or so.
That's interesting about the viruses and Windows + Linux. I don't think I would want to use Linux as my desktop OS though, since I wouldn't be able to use Microsoft Office and things like Dreamweaver. I've started using Linux more because of the advantages of open source technology.

Mark has a point which is very valid. Today the 14 year old was caught because he did not know how to hide. His IP->Domain-> whatever may have had contact information. NOW he will try to learn how to do it and still not get caught.
This is what we're heading for, known as cyber terrorism. Get ready for the nex gen, "you boys"!

Most of the domains used for attacks usually have false contact information for are registered using a sort of 'private registration' system offered by most registrars. At least with IP's, most registrars are quite tight on the contact information provided, and if you register them from the root, the memberships for registrars like RIPE cost a bomb.
I may be that sort of age, but I don't go around killing servers, I see it completely and utterly pointless. The ones that do do it are normally a bunch of sad assess with no friends - well something along those lines.

Personally I feel that challenges created by this guys will help us to prepare ourselves for future demands. They want us to improve our knowledge and security settings so lets do it
at least we can ensure that we wont have any problem from a genuine hacker who would like to delete the data rather than injecting.

I'm young too! But I'm not gonna go around destroying servers and messing up sites! No, if anything, I'm gonna try to do only the right thing from now on. I think that God's plan for me is to help people, and I can if I want to be a doctor! It's not ab out the incentives anymore, it's about the people. In 10 years, I'll be... and... but I will be helping people too! And hopefully lead a ministry.

There is one thing for sure. The person who comes up with a way to keep servers a lot more secure than is currently possible will be a millionaire!!!

I'll ditto previous comments in approving of how eUKHost dealt with the situation. It's nice to have a host does its best to keep everyone informed of what's going on, and has taken action to help prevent it from happening again (hopefully). The automatic cleansing was very useful, and far better than some hosts I can think of who would instead leave it entirely to the customer to sort out.

Anti-virus is all well and good, but if someone decides to do a "personalised" attack on you, and writes their own program, anti virus won't pick it up.

Plus the attack could be completed non-virus based at all. They can just do a DOS attack on the server, use spyware, adware, do annoying little things, find out someones password. So just antivirus on its own is not the whole solution but is a step in the right direction.
You've always got to be on your toes because although people are constantly coming up of new ways to protect servers, other people are coming up with new ways to break servers.
