i've never botherered to measure before, but now a have a pretty high traffic website hosting. how much bandwidth would it take to say, load the eukhost main page for one user? can you give me an approximation? also, if i had a website hosting that got say 50K uniques per month plus, how much bandwidth would i need per month?

Dear One,
You will be happy to know that you will not have to do these calculations manually. There are various softwares to measure or monitor Bandwidth. With the help of it you will be able to decide by yourself on bandwidth. Some of the softwares are available totally free or at least for 30 days trial. You might want to give a try. Just try to search on these keywords “bandwidth monitor” or “Network traffic monitor freeware”.

thanks, the large majority of webhosts tell you how much bandwidth you have left.

There are many softwares which can calculate the bandwidth.You need not put your effort to do it manually.

There are things like Awstats and webstats that can break down your bandwidth usage to minute levels - it is possible to see the bandwidth a certain user has used and at what time (to the hour) and what they have requested. There is a lot of detailed information available if you want it - normally too much detail for your average user .

For new website hosting to get rough estimate bandwidth usage manually, multiply the size of an average HTML page say for example (20.9k that you have) plus the combined size of images ( example there are 4 image at the top ie 5k total ) included in the page, by the number of pages in your web website hosting for example if you have 60 pages and multiply that number by the number of visitors ( for example 50000 visitors ) you will have in a month, for safer size add 10 % more.

It will like this; 20.9+5x60x50000x10% = 7.77 GB so You can look for 10 GB Bandwidth

I may be wrong though but it may work to get a rough estimate especially for a new website hosting.

for the mathematical people here. I think thats what paul has done above with his calculations .

Yea and also that multiplied with number of visitor expected.

Thats what I meant by "number_of_pages" - I was calculating it off page views as opposed to visitors.
