Default Catch All Email hosting Account

I've got windows based hosting and wondered how to configure that 'catchall' email account - had a look through hosting controller and can't find how/where to do it
Any help much appreciated
David

catchall is not available with Version 6 of hostingcontroller. Version 7 has got catchall feature but I really don't like to enable catchall as the recent growth in dictionary attacks worldwide has created threat for cpanel servers as well.

Some of our shared servers are rejecting more than 50k spams per day which is a big number and servers are giving their 50% performance due to incoming spams. We have setup spf records in DNS templates on servers getting filled from Jan 2007 but old accounts need spf records and we have to make a script to inject spf records in DNS file of all domains.

If you need catchall for experimental purpose then don't go for it as that will encourage spammers to initiate dictionary attach on your mail domain.

Thanks Mark for replying - agree with you about the catchall being a target for spam - but as a reseller I have to try to do what the customer wants - hope I can persuade him to do without - if not i guess I'll have to mover him to the Linux hosting

It would be difficult to convince them if they use Exchange server in their office or if they lack technical knowledge and don't like to listen what the service provider says.

If you get customers who use Exchange server in their office then try to convince them for a dedicated server as we can setup that with hosting controller 7 which has catchall. If they don't agree then you can open a ticket with us and we will manually setup catchall for them from MailEnable Manager on the server.

Hello David,
Catch-all was a requirement in old days when we used to get 1 or 2 POP accounts with a domain/hosting. Now I don't see much use of it. As an alternative, I give my customers ample email accounts, more than they actually want. This suffices the need to have a capture all account. Practically, giving them many accounts does not pose much resource crunch since HC6 does not provide mailbox quota restriction (i learnt a few days ago from Mark) and the total shared space is used.

Having said that, I know you have to do what the customer says.

Is this scipt available for VPS Hosting customers - think how much less wasted bandwidth and wasted inbox space if spoofing were reduced on the the VPS Hosting accounts of your customers.

I want to protect my VPS Hosting and my customers but there has to be a smarter way than manually editing each zone file and adding to each new zone file.

Cheers Chris

I mentioned same thing in one of my post located at :-

Emails

You can edit zone templates to ensure that all new accounts are added on your VPS Hosting with spf records. For existing accounts you will need to add this manually from dns manager.

If you want our spam protection script added to your VPS Hosting then open a ticket from our helpdesk and mention to our staff members "Mark has approved spam protection script for my VPS Hosting for no charge"

Make sure that you don't make any changes to exim configuration after we add that script as exim will break if you make any changes manually. We will chattr exim.conf so it wont break due to cpanel updates.
