Changes in Linux hosting accounts

The email settings on a lot of my Linux hosted accounts have changed!!! The unrouted mail has been set to fail instead of going to the catchall account - When did this happen!!! If it was EUK that changed it - Why? and Why wasn't I informed. I've lost some important emails because of this change.

Seems like it changed due to cpanel update on your server as the default option for catchall was set to :fail: on all our servers.

Catchall option will get disabled on new cpanel servers due to growth in dictionary attacks and cpanel has recommended to set :fail: for catchall option to avoid dictionary attacks. Once spammers find catchall option enabled then they initiate heavy dictionary attacks on respective accounts and stopping those becomes very difficult for server administrators.

Thanks for the quick reply - I am a bit annoyed by this actually.
Firstly - the mail settings on my accounts was changed without notification (appreciate that an upgrade was to blame - although it shouldn't alter the settings). Secondly - once you guys realised that the settings had been changed by the upgrade - you didn't tell us. Thirdly (and slightly tounge in cheek) if I want to harvest spam in MY mailbox - as long as I'm not overusing my space or bandwidth limits - why should the admins be worried?
