Sorry if posted in the wrong place. While going through your website, I saw "Cold Fusion Hosting" which is all a new concept for me .
Can't really understand what it is so thought of asking here on the forum. Anyone who can explain it briefly please.

Adobe ColdFusion is the leading cross-platform web application server that gives you the fastest way to build and deploy scalable web systems. It creates and serves web-based applications that interact with back-end databases, such as Microsoft Access and Microsoft SQL Server. Web pages that interact with ColdFusion application servers have a .cfm file extension.

We at eUKhost have recently introduced ColdFusion as an option with our Windows shared hosting and Windows reseller hosting plans.

If Cod Fusion Hosting gives you the fastest way to build and deploy scalable web systems then I guess it is a programming language. I came to know that ColdFusion application is a collection of pages, similar to a static Web site.

So does it mean that Cold Fusion Hosting is to host the webpages created using Cold Fusion Language?

ColdFusion is an application server and software development framework used for Internet application development such as for dynamically-generated web sites. In this regard, ColdFusion is similar to ASP, JSP or PHP. ColdFusion provides developer the capability of creating dynamic websites that can be attached to a backend database. ColdFusion Hosting is indeed for hosting web pages which are created using ColdFusion.

What do you mean by dynamically-generated web sites / dynamic webpages? And does Cold Fusion Hosting include creation, compilation and execution of the applications or webpages?

Using ColdFusion users can create complex, large, dynamic, database driver web applications easily. It is basically a programming language based on standard HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) and is used to write dynamic web pages.

ColdFusion is a server scripting language which is used to create rich dynamic web pages. It is one of the highly preferred tools by developers. The most tricky part of hosting is to identify the customer that causes problems on the server, here in such a case coldfusion hosting debugs codes and helps customer in understanding why their code does not work.ColdFusion hosting is mainly for developers building dynamic websites, it offers effortless enterprise data connectivity, it helps in organizing dynamic content, it has a suite of built-in applications. The ColdFusion suite consists of ColdFusion Server and ColdFusion Studio. There aren’t much web hosting providers that support ColdFusion. ColdFusion is a server side technology. ColdFusion works well with Fireworks,Freehand,Flash and Dreamweaver.

ColdFusion is the hot way to create dynamic webpages that link to just about any database.

ColdFusion is a programming language based on standard HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) that is used to write dynamic webpages. It lets you create pages on the fly that differ depending on user input, database lookups, time of day or whatever other criteria you dream up! ColdFusion pages consist of standard HTML tags such as <FONT SIZE=.+2.>, together with CFML (ColdFusion Markup Language) tags such as <CFQUERY>, <CFIF> and <CFLOOP>. ColdFusion was introduced by Allaire in 1996, acquired by Macromedia in a merger in April 2001, and acquired by Adobe in December 2005. It is currently in version 7.0.1, but the next version of the product (codenamed Scorpio) is already in development.

Creating an application with ColdFusion is as straightforward as creating a static Web site. However, in a ColdFusion application you can introduce an incredible range of functionality that is not available either in static Web sites or in traditional client/server applications. A ColdFusion application is very simply a collection of pages, similar to a static Web site. But unlike the pages in a static Web site, the pages in a ColdFusion application include the server-side ColdFusion Markup Language (CFML) in addition to HTML. CFML gives you the ability to control the behavior of your applications, integrate a wide range of server technologies, and dynamically generate the content that is returned to the Web browser.

When a page in a ColdFusion application is requested by a browser, it is automatically pre-processed by the ColdFusion Application Server. Based on the CFML in the page, the Application Server executes the application logic, interacts with other server technologies, and then dynamically generates an HTML page which is returned to the browser.

This is great info. I was going to ask something more basic though. What do you mean by creating a static Web site? thanks.

A Static or Classic website; as the name suggests, contrasts to a Dynamic website; is one that has web pages stored on the server in the same form as any user will view them & it's primarily coded in plain HTML.. This type of website usually displays the same information to all visitors, thus the information is static If the website is going to present data that changes on a regular basis, then the better choice is to create a Dynamic website..

I've never been a big fan of coldfusion. Seems like it doesn't offer much that can't be accomplished with other solutions, and is, well, proprietary.

A safe bet for the OP: If you don't know what coldfusion hosting is, and no one is asking you to get it, you don't need it.

The most alluring advantage of ColdFusion hosting is that it enables you to build and deploy powerful web applications and services. This increases the efficiency of your hosting activities.
