cPanel 11
Hey.
Just a quick question, who has started to use cPanel 11? I wouldn't be surprised if you haven't upgraded yet, as it is still in development stage, and a highly recommend against anyone who is planning to upgrade if they have a live production environment and don't know what they're doing.
cPanel 11 seems to a lot better than cPanel 10, firstly, it finally supports Apache 2.X, which is great, it's something I've been waiting for a long time.
I have setup a demo account for those who haven't seen it:

Username: demo
Password: omed
What are your opinions of it?

Nice Demo Thomas. You have done a good job for those who are not familiar with cPanel 11.ATB

No problem. So, what do you think of it?

cPanel 11 is now on all the linux shared hosting (I believe) so quite a lot of people will be using it. It certainly seems much more obvious to find things in it and I like the rating of password security. And it looks pretty! Lol.

It's already on the shared hosting? I think that's quite a bad idea until there is at least a proper release of cPanel 11.

cPanel 11 is the official release that is (and quite rightly should) be used for live production environments.
The continued use of cPanel 10 is only recommeneded to be continued if you have major security issues or if you are worried about bugs at the moment. There are slighly more bugs by using cPanel 11 but not enough to make people worry!! As these do not exist here cPanel does recommend the useage of cPanel 11.
And I quote "CURRENT Current builds are more mature than the EDGE builds since they have been tested in a production environment. " - used and tested in production environments therefore can be used successfully in production environments.
Also if you think its a bad idea to have it installed how come you have it installed and are allowing us access to it!! If you think it could potentially cause problems then surly it isnt wise to let everyone have access to it!
Hope that helps you a little bit!!

I've installed it as I'm not really using cPanel to manage my website hosting. The account I posted is in Demo mode, so the control panel isn't functional.

Sorry, I don't think I explained myself clearly. I understand that it is in demo mode, i was just saying if you think cPanel 11 shouldn't be in a production environment and may have security vulnerabilities this could compromise your own website hostings security as these same vulnerabilities will be in it whether in demo mode or not.
Personally, I do believe that cPanel 11 is fit for a production environment and therefore you are safe but I was only pointing this out above as you seemed to have concerns about the fitness of cPanel 11 for a production environment at the moment.

Not so much security vulnerabilites, but bugs and errors.

Ah right I understand where your coming from now. Oh sure cPanel 11 has bugs but I for one prefer using cPanel 11 and coping with the few and far between bugs we have had.
cPanel are normally very good for releasing patches to fix bugs fast and cPanel 11 has been no exception. I am impressed with them (and eUKhost for applying the patches so promptly). The only major bug I have unconvered was the MySQL issue we had a while back but a patch was released almost immidiately to fix it.
I prefer the new cPanel 11 as well as the new x3 skin - it is a great improvement on cPanel 10.

I for one, not sure if you agree or not, was surprised by how far they have brought it between versions 10 and 11 - the new features and all the little extra bits such as password strength and other verification checks along with all the bug fixes and stuff like that. Even how fast they released patches for common problems that were discovered after people started using 11.

I think eUKhost have installed it on all of their servers, I have a reseller with eUKhost and I really like cPanel 11. I have had a few problems with cPanel 11 but support dept. have answered my queries. So far so good with the new version .

Yeah, it's a big step up, particularly for users who don't have any real tech-knowhow background. It lets them see how secure their passwords are and it is much easier to see everything generally. And bugs are being ironed out very quickly unlike some things with Vista compatibility issues!

I wonder how much better cPanel 12 will be when it comes out. If they do a bigger step as they have done between 10 and 11 I will be expecting it to make me cups of coffee and cook my dinner as well as administer my website hosting .
Don't tell me about Vista - oh god. £199 for a start - and 5 months later and it still crashes all the time, won't share an Internet conenction with more than one computer, won't run half the software it is supposed to and has so many annoying errors and security updates.
I know that they have to protect against piracy, but mine is an official real expensive oringinal Vista so can't they concentrate on making it work rather than "checking" my version and product key every few days and releasing updates via Windows Update that do the same thing!!
Any way, that was a bit of a diversion but you did mention the "V" word - which is almost as bad as the "F" word .
