Default Free SSL Certificate

Not sure if it's a right place to post!

Just wondering if it is secure to install any free SSL on my website. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you

It is always recommended that you choose a paid SSL certificate as SSL certificate is responsible for the security of your website where you will have Transactions.

EUKhost.com also provides SSL certificates and you can check the SSL certificates we provide from the below link :

Dedicated SSL Certificates

Shared SSL is definitely not as trustworthy as dedicated ones.Shared SSL certificate is available on all the shared hosting plans. There is no cost charged by eUKhost for that.

I managed to find some reference links on the same topic:
Dedicated SSL
SSL certificate

Hope it helps.

If you want to start an e-commerce site it's worth investing in a SSL certificate not only for secure online transactions but also to gain your customers' trust by not using a free certificate.

If you consider a shared SSL certificate, you will find that if the SSL certificate is verified, the registration details are of the web hosting company. On the other hand, if a dedicated SSL certificate is verified, the registration details are of your company. Hence, it is important to make sure that you consider a dedicated SSL certificate to gain trust of the customers

Hope this helps..

Also, if you consider a Shared or Free SSL certificate, there will be difference in the URL of the website.

For example, if you consider a Shared SSL certificate, the URL is something like :

https: // server-hostname / ~cPanel-username (without spaces and as far as I know )

If visitors on your website find this type of URL, they won't be very impressed and the trust level will automatically decrease. Hence, it is recommended that you consider a Dedicated SSL certificate as if you do that, the visitors on the website will be able to see your website's URL which is definitely better

All the best!!

Any specific reason for installing FREE SSL certificate on your website ?
Well, if you are serious about your online business then you should spend few bucks on getting secure dedicated SSL certificate.

Let me just clarify however, the security of a free SSL certificate compared to the security of a certificate you pay for is no different.

The main idea of using a paid SSL certificate is to get confidence from your customers. For example, Verisign is a highly trusted SSL certificate provider, and is likely to increase confidence in your customers significantly. However, the encryption of the Versign certificate is no different to a free SSL provider such as CaCert.

Hello Jayden,

Yes EUK does offer Shared SSL for free on Shared and Reseller Hosting Plans.

Quote:
eUKhost offers shared SSL on all its shared and reseller web hosting plans. Shared SSL is installed on our servers hostname which would look like https://ourserver.eukhost.com/~username/. If your visitors have no problem in submitting forms or billing information through such URL then there should be absolutely no problem for you to use our shared SSL Certificates for your secure URL requirements.
For more details, you can check:-
SSL certificate | Web Hosting UK | Dedicated Servers | VPS Hosting

Hope that helps!

Cheers!

There is no difference between a free SSL certificate and a paid SSL certificate other then the company who issues you it.

Companies you buy certificates from are likely to be 'trusted'. If a certificate signer is trusted, you will not see any SSL errors in your browser. A free SSL certificate provider is unlikely to be trusted, and therefore, you'll see an error when using a free certificate. Nevertheless, the encryption is exactly the same and both offer the same level of encryption security.

Some of the companies you buy SSL certificates from may offer insurance, this is an added bonus.

Yes, that's true!

SSL is not a software for which you pay, it is the "trust" you pay for.

This is the reason users mostly prefer paid SSL certificates. If you choose a paid SSL certificate, you will be given a Warranty (can also be called as Insurance ). If a bug is found in the SSL certificate and you loose some amount of money due to this, the company will offer you Warranty i.e. Compensation

Whereas, if you consider a free SSL certificate, you won't get anything if a bug is found and you loose some amount of money due to the bug

Nothing is Free in this world, if you get the SSL certificate for Free , you get some worries too for Free , also for installing a certificate on your site you will need a dedicated IP address.

Having a Dedicated IP address and Paid SSL certificate is always recommended

If you are considering a Dedicated SSL certificate, you do not have to purchase a Dedicated IP address as a Dedicated IP address is provided with a Dedicated SSL certificate

However, it is better to confirm before you purchase the Dedicated SSL certificate.

EUKhost.com also provides a Dedicated IP address for free if you consider a Dedicated SSL certificate

Paid SSL certificates are always considered to be better as you are guaranteed about the service as a company is offering it to you. However, when it comes to a free SSL certificate, you cannot claim a compensation nor do something against the company even if your website has financial losses due to the free SSL certificate

Talking Why SSL Certificate

Reson why one need SSL Certificate:

* If you have an online store or accept online orders and credit cards
* If you offer a login or sign in on your site
* If you process critical information such as address, birth date, license, or ID numbers
* If you need to endorse with privacy and security requirements
* If you value privacy and expect others to trust you.

If one of the above or all of above are things which you have to deal with, then you should opt for Paid SSL Cetificate. As suggested by others, This would help you to create good reputation and build trust in your customers mind. It proves your integrity, if you provide high-secured browser interface to your customers for safe and secured payment processing.
