Default Frontpage?

OK first question.

I'm using MS Frontpage 2003 for my site at the moment but I've read that it is now defunct. Should I start afresh or keep it as it is?

Thanks for the reply.

A Frontpage Extension manager is provided built-in to cPanel to allow you to manage the extensions which will affect how some of your files that you have created within Microsoft’s now defunct Frontpage web page creator are handled by the server; this feature can be quite important for some people since if they don’t have the Frontpage Extension options for their domain configured correctly then the web pages which they have spent time creating within Frontpage will not function within their shared cPanel website hosting space, which in turn might mean that they will have to move web hosts to ensure that they can find one at which their website will actually function correctly.
Forgive me if I've read this wrong. Quite possible. lol

There's now a new program from Microsoft called Expresions which is replacing Frontpage. It's pretty similar really so I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you're not using frontpage extensions anyway, it wouldn't be too much of an issue but even if you are, you can generally get Frontpage to upload using FTP and not use the extensions anyway.

Just to add to this, if you can get your hands on Expression Web then thats good and I would start using it. It is 100% compatible with your Frontpage 2003 sites and has many new features as well as writing vastly better code as well as more compliant code that can help you towards W3C validation, cross browser compatibility and accessibly (especially with issues relating to the Disability Discrimination Act 2005).

I would not class Frontpage 2003 as defunct but I do believe that Microsoft have announced they will no longer support the product in favour of supporting Expression Web instead.

Hope that helps .

Thanks DPS, I'll have to talk to the wife about getting Expression Web. Wonder if she'll take a reduction in the shopping money.

No problem - glad to be of assistance . Hehe, good luck with the wife!

In the mean time I do believe you can still get a 30 day trial of expression web from www.microsoft.com/expression - also I do believe you can get an indefinite(? - for the time being I think) beta trial of Expression Web 2.

Hope that helps .

Hi Fire13,

I'm on the Expression Web team at Microsoft. It is true that Microsoft is no longer developing FrontPage and some web hosts are stopping support for FrontPage Server Extensions, but not EUKHOST apparently. You can download Expression Web, Microsoft's standards-based web authoring tool at:

wwwDOTmicrosoftDOTcomSLASHexpression

We also have a BETA of version 2 there too.

Since you have FrontPage already, you can get the product for only $99. Or if you have
Adobe/Macromedia Creative Suite (any version)
Adobe/Macromedia Dreamweaver (any version)
Adobe/Macromedia Flash or Director (any version)
Adobe GoLive (any version)
Microsoft Office (any version)
