freehostia.com/free_hosting.html looks quite good, but with hosting, you get what you pay for

I would personaly prefer to pay someone for hosting rather than getting a free service, to be realistic these free service providers usually require something in return that can take away profits as you never expect good support, security, uptime and spam free network.

Seconded. I would rather pay for a reliable service, and a support team who actually show an interest in any problems!

Freehostia gives 5GB monthly bandwidth. I think if you expect your website hosting to use more than that you should expect to pay (at the end of the day, the bandwidth used does COST someone money!)

If you website hosting is getting members regularly you should at least assure your members with a paid host.

If you are wanting a free host, I would recommend Awardspace, or Cabspace. I'm not sure about the bandwith restrictions though - I only ever had sone low-traffic website hostings hosted with them, so it never became an issue. Both provide subdomains (yourusername.cabspace.com or yourusername.awardspace.com).

customers become careless when things run smoothly on free hosting for long time and they keep no backups nor do they take precautions.

people running free hosting business cannot afford to hire people to keep their servers secure so your free hosting server is favorite target of hackers.

You will loose your data once your website hosting starts getting success as your greed never allows you to switch to paid hosting unless you loose your data.

Are you sure you have actually visited 789mb.com's website hosting???!

I ask this because it does say in rather big letters near the top of the main page:

"Free web hosting. Free extras. Zero Ads! - YES! No ADS!"

Which ads are the ones that you do not like then? lol

As has been said, paid hosting is the way to go in reality, especially if you thinking of even making a half reasonable website hosting. And considering how cheap it is..... it will probably be the cheapest thing you have in your life. Come on what does £1.90 a week buy you these days? - not even one drink at the pub - so have a pint a week less and get some good quality hosting!!

Cabspace hasn't been on line since March 14th 2007. Why would you suggest a host who hasn't been around for 3 months. This is not an example of a good free host. Are you a cabspace moderator? Still think they will come back?????????????

cszwed,
No, I'm not a Cabspace moderator - I hadn't realised that Cabspace were no longer running, as I wasn't hosting my website hosting with them at the time of posting. I was simply saying, that from my personal experience, Cabspace were good for simple hosting, but I had assumed that they were still up and running, and so didn't check. You sound quite angry about it - did you have a bad experience with Cabspace?

This is the way the free hosting company usually evaporate from market leaving their clients in trouble, that is the reason one should go for paid hosting ONLY.

To be honest, I "know" free hosting will eventually fail.

I remember running a free hosting company at the age of 13 (Xeeblo) - But this closed because the servers couldn't support all of the users we were getting (It was a huge victim of its own sucess, and the servers were constantly offline).

Trust me, if you want reliable hosting, pay for it. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
