Default mod_rewrite in hosting addon domains

Hi All,

I'm using Gallery v1.5 in my main web, and also in an addon web. This software uses mod_rewrite to allow easy access to particular albums etc.

I find that the mod_rewrite commands work fine for my main domain, but for the addon domain they give a "403 Forbidden" error when I try to access them
(e.g. www. tansdale.co.uk/gallery/indi www. tansdale.co.uk/gallery/indi).

Is there anything I need to specifically do to make this work in addon domains, or should it work by default?

Thanks for any ideas,

Steve

Hello Steve,

You will need to make a separate .htaccess inside the directory of your addon domain. Addon domain has got its separate entry in .htaccess so you will need to make separate .htaccess for it.

Hi,

I've got .htaccess inside the "gallery" directory of both webs, which is where the rewrite takes place, but it only works for the main web. The rewrite commands are the same in each case, which should be correct since they both work at the same URL relative path, i.e. www. domain1.co.uk/gallery and www. domain2.co.uk/gallery. However the second one doesn't work.

Do I need to do anything in .htaccess at the addon domain level or in public_http in order to allow the addon domain gallery .htaccess commands to be executed?

Thanks,

Steve

Your addon domain would be resolving from a subdirectory named domain2 or something else. You need to put the .htaccess in it.

don't put the .htaccess inside the gallery.

Hmm, well it used to work from the Gallery directory when I was with my previous web-host, and that's how Gallery installs it. Maybe I'll try it from the subdomain though.

We have cpanel on our linux servers and cpanel tries to read .htaccess from the root directory of the domain. For addon domain the root directory is home directory of the addon domain so .htaccess should go in it. .htaccess inside the gallery wont be considered.
