My web site hosting keeps going down
Hi guys,
I registered a new domain a week ago and got the web site hosting up and running the weekend.
On a regular basis this web site hosting suddenly dissapears for minutes or sometimes hours and then re-appears again!
www.unlockbycode.net
When it goes down all I see is this:
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website hosting is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.
What you can try:
Diagnose Connection Problems
More information
It is really getting to be a pain as it has happened 2 times when I was adding data and then had to start all over again when it reappeared 40 minutes later.
You guys got any idea? And can I switch to dedicated ip also - please bill me for this and I will make payment.
Regards
Daz

unlockbycode.net is hosted on Portland and there's absolutely no problem with this server. Do you have Tiscali broadband connection ?
Some of our customers were facing similar problem as they were on Tiscali backbone, but we got this sorted before 2 days so I'm not sure why you would face such problem. If you can provide us with Traceroute reports generated when you face such problem then that would help us to figure out if we need to get out Network Engineers involved once again.
I have requested our technical staff to look into this problem and they will get back to you with more details.

Can you move this or get sorted asap because I have had several emails from unhappy customers because they cannot submit for codes they have paid for - this web site hosting provides 24hr remote codes and my customers pay for this service and after 5 days it has gone down 7 times!
I have several other sites hosted by you and not had any major problems at all until now....

10 hours downtime is next to impossible
There must be something else as the load has never crossed 0.02 on portland and its a Dual Quad Core Xeon server with 12 Gigs of RAM. Our monitoring system shows no such downtime with any of the services on portland.

Hi Mark,
Well obviously I was not online all night, but when I last checked at 23:30pm it was down as my 2nd post shows!
When I checked again this morning the check test with http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com confirmed.
I got to work for just after 10am and the web site hosting was back up. Not sure what happened between but it was 100% down. All seems to be ok now but if it happens again I will let you know

Virgin is occasionally tempremental which I know from my experience. Their support team are usually useless at sorting it. I would suggest trying to flush your DNS and see if that solves it. It does seem very odd that it seems to be coming and going like that though...

Hi Daz,
I have now done a full follow-up on what you said. Portland, the server was never down. The services were all functional at all times (they still are). I verified with a few other customers as well, they have confirmed that the website hostings were never down. ( I cannot give the names of the sites and customers owing to the privacy policy).
In the past, we have had customers from Virgin Media having issues. Most recently, Tiscali customers had a problem which got blown out due to a peering capacity problem; again something which only they could resolve. Our NOC and we as a company were prepared to help in any which way. But sometimes there is only so much we can do about it.
We would never like our customers to suffer

As always with computer networks, there are many places that can be causing issues and it's not always the obvious one. I would try using a proxy if you can't get on to your web site hosting and then you'll know if it's your connection or the server.

Im having the same problem as well and im no longer with Tiscali. My problem is exactly the same as r3gsm and it's frustrating when it stops working when you're doing something. Im hosted on Portland and the thing is, I never had this problem when I was in a different server.

Hmmm. It does sound a bit odd... I normally try from several locations before pointing to the server as the issue. Traceroutes I guess would help to try and isolate the problem. If it's still an issue, send these to support as well as a description.

Ok, when I checked my website hosting this morning, it wasn't available then around 30 minutes later, it was back again. Maybe around 30 minutes to 1 hour, it went offline again while I was doing something.

It does seem very odd... I'm not entirely sure what to suggest about it. You could always set up monitoring on it to see if it picks up anything.

Monitoring? Not sure how to do that. Im currently with O2 broadband and there doesn't seem to be any problem with that as I can visit all other sites. Also, when I visit r3gsm website hosting, it doesn't load for me so both our web site hosting are down.
