Default Online Music Hosting / Streaming

Hi,

If I was to create a website where people can upload music and then that music could be played / streamed on that same website, what hosting / streaming service would you recommend? Or would recommend paying for the extra space and bandwidth at my host and stream the music from there?

Thanks
Morledge

Hmmmm. I think this depends how many people are going to be using it and how many songs will be uploaded. Icecast is the program I'd probably go for. But if it's only a couple of tracks, set up an .m3u file with the urls of the files you want to play and then link to it.

There is potential for many users uploading many tracks so long term we are talking GB's of data. This is why I was thinking of an external hosting / streaming provider.

Any thoughts?

I think if you're talking a large amount of data you're going to want to use something external otherwise you're going to end up needing a dedicated server.

Try Windows Media Server - bare in mind that you'll need a separate VPS or dedicated server for the purpose though.

I was hoping not to have to buy a dedicated server for this. I was hoping to pay some sort of subscription fee for an external provider to handle the storage and the streaming.
