Default phpMyAdmin Hosting

How do I get to phpMyAdmin (or something similar) to manage databases. I've only recently purchased some Windows space and I'm finding the Hosting Controller much harder to get round compared to the cpanel and WHM I used to with my Linux space.
TIA

Thanks for looking into that for me. On a related note - i'm trying to copy a database from my linux hosting to the windows side - do you know how to create a .bak file from the linux side so i can restore from it on the windows side?

You will need to create .sql dump of your database to restore it in your windows account. You have an option to restore the backup from hosting controller.

I've never seen .bak backup of a MySQL Server database.

Default I know - but..

Hosting controller wants a .bak file - the quick help displayed says:

Backup : You can backup your SQL Server databases at any time.

If backing-up MS-SQL database, the backup file will be created in 'davidwab' directory with same name of your database.

When backing-up mySQL database, the backup file will be created in 'davidwab' directory in 'Date-DBName.back' format. For example, if mySQL database 'store' is backed-up on July 31, 2003 then backup name will be '7-31-2003-Store.bak'.

Restore : You can restore SQL Server database from a backup file whenever required.

To restore a database, you need to upload its backup file into \db' folder of your account first.

When restoring mySQL database, the backup file should be .bak extension.

So I was confused

Make a MySQL dump in .sql extension and then rename it as .bak. Seems like hosting controller will restore a backup only if it is in .bak extension.

Renaming .sql to any other extension wont make any changes to the data inside the file so give it a try.

Default Tried that

It didn't work (I think)
Tried it and it appeared to say success (well it said started successfully - how do you know when it finishes??) Waited a while then did a backup of the database (until i find something like phpMyAdmin, my options for looking at the database are nonexistant ) - looking at that file size it is only 1kb whilst the original was over 3Mb.

As per recent post on hosting controller forum, PhpMyAdmin is supported in version 7.0 and we will need to upgrade control pane version from 6.1 to version 7. Upgrade would be done later tonight so you will need to wait for some time.

I will update this thread once we complete the upgrade process.

Thanks - I didn't see that post (which forum?). I'm struggling with quite a few things in this new windows hosting environment ( ) - eg Email forwarding, Custom Error pages, website hosting backup, redirects (this last very apt in light of my recent experience with index.htm ) - is there somewhere you can point me to find it all out

I am personally not so good with Windows as I had some bad experience with windows servers in the year 2003. I need to communicate with our windows team most of the times for any windows problem but the PhpMyAdmin update was located at forum.hostingcontroller.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4396

Basic settings on hosting controller are quite simple as I've worked on WinPanel before few years which was a clone of HostingController. WinPanel development stopped so we had to migrate accounts from WinPanel to Plesk in 2004 - 05. We had regular problems with Plesk after that and thats why we switched to hosting controller and so far hosting controller looks very good. Only thing is that cpanel users have different mindset so they don't like it initially.

Let me know if you get stuck anywhere and I'll have necessary information for you.

You're right about cpanel users The four I mentioned above are my current problems - if you could answer those and the database questions I'd be a very happy bunny.
Thanks
David

Hello David,

Our windows system admin were looking to upgrade the control panel last night but the version 7.0 was Beta version and they didn't initialize the upgrade.

We are waiting to see stable version of HC 7.0 as we cannot upgrade to Beta version. Please upload backup of your database in your ftp space and provide the information in a ticket to our support team. We will restore the database from our end.

I do understand that existing version is missing PhpMyAdmin, Email Forwarders and Spam settings but Hosting Controller is the most stable windows control panel. As of now if you need to setup forwarders then you can contact our support team to do so.

You can connect to your MySQL Server database remotely using a software like MySqlYog. We will try our best to get PhpMyAdmin as soon as possible.
