Problems Accessing Server

Hi there,

I am a web designer and I have a number of website hostings hosted on the Typhoon server. Everything works well and its uptime has been excellent.

Over the past year, I have had a problem with three customers who all have had the same problem. They simply cannot see this server. When they ping the web site hosting or even when they ping the IP address directly, they get no response. But it seems they can always access any other web site hosting on the Net except any web site hosting hosted on Typhoon.

In two instances, the customers were able to see the server without problem for some time. It just suddenly changed overnight and remained permanently.

They have all tried DNS flushes (although I do not think this is the problem because they always resolve the correct IP address) and all have contacted their ISPs but to no avail. They have all checked their HOSTS files as well.

Does anyone have any idea what this problem might be? Sorry to be so vague but this is the reality of the situation.

Hi Ian,
Try finding out who their ISPs are and also if they have static or dynamic IPs. If they have static IPs they might have got blocked by the server firewall. This can happen if they have several failed login attempts. It does sound as if this might be the case.

If you can get their IPs, support should be able to check if they have been blacklisted by the server and get them cleared so they can access.

If that doesn't work, post back on here and I'm sure someone else will come up with another idea to try.

They are with different ISPs so there is no common thread there. However, I do know that in the last two instances they had problems with email passwords so you might be onto something. I'll find out their IP addresses and let you know how I get on.

Yeah, as you say, if they had email password problems it sounds as if they got blacklisted by the firewall. You can try and get support just to flush the entire firewall IP list if you want instead of trying to get IPs from them. They may or may not want to do it as I can't remember what the policy is on that now.

Either way, hopefully getting the IPs will help get to the bottom of this.
