On our Business hosting servers we have both servers connected to each other with Internal LAN. If first server goes down for some reason then the second server will immediately bind IPs of first server and we will be notified about the problem. Everything will continue to work from the second server with 1 minute old backup and we will then need to troubleshoot problem on first server.
Once we manage to fix its problem then we will need to manually rsync latest data from second server to first server then then switch them again to make first server as master. Such solution wont be possible on
VPS Hosting's as you cannot swap IPs of
VPS Hosting's automatically and DNS switching time will be more than the actual downtime as you will be changing IPs in DNS.
