Hi all. I've got a few questions about file permissions.
For the shared
web hosting, does world have to have read access in order for Apache to be able to see it? Isn't this a security hole given that it's a shared server? Shouldn't the files be owned by the user, the group be apache and world not have any access at all?
Is there any way to recursively change the permission of a directory? I uploaded a directory by ftp and it's got permissions of 750. I suspect that in order for apache to see it, it must have something like 755. I need to make this change to the directory and all file/subdirectories under it. Is that possible to do in cPanel or otherwise?
Thanks.
Stephan
