Default Web Hosting queries from new customer

I'm currently not very happy with my web host provider and I'm looking for a better solution. eUKhost is looking like a promising alternative.

I believe the copper service will at least initially meet my needs, but if I need extra resources will upgrading be easy? I don't want my website hosting to immediately shutdown if it goes slightly over the 200M limit for example. Also, does the control panel sw report on current resource usage? (Linux host)

I've not transferred a website hosting before and I want to make the transition seemless. I have purchased a .me.uk domain name for 2 years with the above host (it's currently parked I believe), but their system means that they have to set the DNS servers on my request. If I transfer to eUKhost, do I need to just contact them to get them to set the new DNS details to point to eUKhost webspace?

Can I access the MySQL DB server directly using a MySQL client? I have quite a large DB to import and I have previously had problems importing large DBs with phpMyAdmin.

Are there any restrictions on ftp usage?

Does the Apache server support mod_rewrite?

Happ New Year grazie

I have answered your questions step by step :-

1. Cpanel will send automated email notifications once you reach disk quota limits. If you ignore those then your website hosting will continue to work but incoming emails will get bounced and database wont be able to add any new records. Once you get any of those notifications then you should open a ticket for our billing department and we will upgrade your account to next higher plan as per your choice.

2. We will send details of our nameservers in the welcome email. You will need to ask your previous host to point your DNS to those specified in the welcome email. You will receive welcome email in less than 30 mins after signup so rest of the work can be completed from your end on the same day. If you want our support team to help you with transfer of data then do not hesitate to open a ticket.

3. You can access the MySQL Server database directly using any MySQL Server client. All that you need to do is add a access host from MySQL Server section of your control panel. You will need to put your IP address over there to allow your system or MySQL Server client to access the database remotely.

4. There are no restrictions on ftp usage.

5. mod_rewrite is supported on all our linux servers. You will need to add few lines in .htaccess file of your account depending on the rules you wish to setup.

As my ISP provides a dynamic IP (which often changes at the moment), does this mean I'll need to use the control panel to change the access host every time my IP changes?

In that case you can add the full subnet to allowed list like 192.168.1.* ( depending on what IP range is assigned to you ). If the second last octet is also dynanmic then 192.168.*.*.

If you need authenticated access from any IP address then simply add %

You will need to ensure that no one reads or gets database login information from your config files or any other source as % will allow any IP address to connect to the database using the authenticated username and password.

I could be wrong, but all octets seem to be dynamic. Maybe it would be best to change the access host as and when needed. Thanks again.
