Default what is Web hosting?

Hi,

Many medium to large enterprises host their own Web sites and manage their own servers in their own facilities. Even home users can try, although many ISPs block traffic going to a customer's Web server ee ISP, co-location and how to register a domain name.

Well I haven't seen anywhere on eUKhosts website that they provide colocation service too, but registering a Domain is pretty simple. Please check the following link to understand the procedure to register a domain name : Domain Name Registration | UK Web Hosting | Linux Windows Server Tutorials | PHP MySQL Service.
They have nicely explained the procedure there in the blog.

You can also get in touch with their sales/billing team directly via livechat and get the domain booked ........

If you are aware of the Procedure to Register a Domain name, you can check the Price for Domain name Registration and Register the Domain names Directly from Here. You can also contact the Billing department at any point of time if you are facing some problems while Registering the Domain name.

Web Hosting is providing space on the internet. There is a server on which you rent a space .Web hosting is also the support the client would need to upload his website. As per my previous experience of last 5 years cpanel webhosting is providing the best service and the best live support.

So, is it only disk space, bandwidth and the network connection that one should be concerned about with the hosting provider? Or, are there any other parameters as well?

Quite a lot actually. First you need to decide what you want to achieve with your website, and who will be writing the code for it.

At a basic level, if all you want is a few pages to present some information, I would go with a Linux shared hosting. Reasonably cheap and easy to set up the pages using a text editor (notepad) if you know HTML or one of a number of cheap or even free web editors.

For something more complex which may host a shopping cart, forum (like this one), blog etc. you need to decide whether you want to run it under Linux or Windows - probably a developer's decision but may also depend on the facilities required. You also need to decide the type of hosting, shared, dedicated, virtual - the list is quite long and needs much more than a basic idea of what you want from your site.

Define what you want, and the people here will surely provide the advice you need. Their support, from my experience, is nothing short of excellent.

Which works better for a shopping cart then Linux or Windows? Or can you site the difference - pros and cons of both, if possible? thanks, really appreciate it.

Firstly, I have never set up a shopping cart on either Windows or Linux, so can't give specific advice. Having said that, I would expect that there are options on both platforms which will provide what you need. Assuming it is something you are going to set up yourself, you first need to decide what you want from your shopping cart. Then you can look at all the options and decide which one you fell is simple to set up. If you want to handle just a few items for sale, there are probably many which would suit your needs; on the other hand if you are going into competition with Tesco et al you will need something much bigger. You also need to decide how you are going to be paid for your products. For a small shop for someone starting out PayPal or Google Checkout would be a simple start. Otherwise there are merchant systems available to handle this.

As you may have realised by now setting up a shopping cart isn't a 5 minute job and you need to be clear on everything you want to achieve with your cart.

There are 4 shopping carts listed on the eUKHost site here: Shopping cart software | Web Hosting UK | Dedicated Servers | VPS Hosting - Google these and you can find out just what they provide.

You can find the differences between both these platforms here :

Windows vs Linux hosting
What should I choose - LINUX or Windows ?

AFAIK, most of the shopping carts work on both of them, its just the way you want to host them, taking the cost of the hosting package into consideration

Generally, Linux does everything that many users want it to, but some people have tasks that require Windows applications. So if you are not utilizing ASP.NET, Cold Fusion, or MsSQL we suggest that you host the Web site on a Linux Server.

The links provided by Rock should help you make a better decision though
