Default About addon Domain Names

Hi, I currently have a 'bronze plan' account and i would like to buy an addon domain.
my question is:

let's say i actually got the domain www.domain_name.com and i buy www.second_domain_name.com

if i set up the redirection of the addon domain in the cpanel to a folder of my first domain web space, by typing in the browser the addon domain address www.second_domain_name.com users will see the redirection to

or they'll just see?

If you setup a redirect for it from control panel or .htaccess then it will get redirected to subfolder on main domain :-

but in their browser, what will people see on their address bar when they visit www.addon-domain.com?

will they see www.addon-domain.com or www.real-domain.com?

will they somehow be able to notice that www.addon-domain.com is actually an addon domain of www.real-domain.com?

gatz82, if you have the add on domain "www.addondomain.com" and set it to redirect to "www.mycurrentdomain.com/folderforaddondomain" then "www.mycurrentdomain.com/folderforaddondomain" will be displayed in the users address bar. (I am 95% sure of this!)

Hope that helps!

They wont be able to figure out addon domain concept. They will get redirected on www.real-domain.com so it wont be possible for them to locate that they were redirected from an addon domain.

Thats what I was trying to say in a round about way. It's hard to explain some of these things - words are not my strong point sometimes!!

Are you sure of that? On another host of mine, the following website is setup as an addon domain on another:

http://www.23kb.com/

The address displayed when viewing and using the website is 23kb.com, rather than the original domain name (miniphp.com). I believe that I set it up by simply using the addon domain bit in cPanel.

I'm curious as to why this is. My host may have implemented an extra feature enabling this, if it is possible. Otherwise, I'm not really sure why this occurs.

hairyfreak,

please explain if you are facing any problem or to whose post you are referring. I am not able to make out what exactly you wish to say.

My apologies.

From what I can gather from the posts in this topic, when an addon domain is used, it simply redirects the user from the addon domain to the main domain, folder or subdomain. 23kb.com is set as an addon domain on one of my accounts, miniphp.com. If you visit 23kb.com, rather than being redirected to the subdomain, you can browse the website from the addon domain.

I'm currently with another host, so that may explain the difference, but I thought the addon domain redirection would be identical across hosts all running cPanel. It's not a problem, just something I would be interested in finding out the reasons behind.

Please let me know if I am still unclear. I find this whole thing a little difficult to explain.

You need to read this thread from the beginning.

gatz82 said that he needed a redirect so we told him to setup redirect from control panel or through .htaccess. by default your addon domain will not redirect and it will shows respective website in the browser if you open the addon domain only.

It will redirect to a sub URL on the main domain only if you setup a redirect.
