Default Advice on configuring Domain Name setup

Hi, I'm after a little guidance on the best solution to this situation.

I have one registered top level domain in my bronze package. On the main welcome page of this website hosting there needs to be 6 links to different pages on the website hosting. However, each of these 6 sections needs to be password protected on entry. This means that any subpages in each section cannot be accessed without the proper username and password. In addition, there needs to be a forum in each section which cannot be accessed without the same username and password.

I was thinking it would be easier to create 6 subdomains and get the top level domain links to just point to each relevant subdomain. However, I am not sure this is the best way to do it. I assume that SiteStudio is not available to edit each subdomain individually?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You can simply design those pages in sitebuilder and once those are published you can move them in subdirectories and rename those webpages to index.html or index.php and password protect those subdirectories.

If you install a phpbb or vbulletin forum then the password protected subdirectories will be using username and password that you set from your control panel and the forum would use authentication that is set after users signup or the users that you create from admin section of the forum.

Ok thanks for that.

I saved several drafts in SiteStudio, is there a way to access these drafts through file manager? That way I will just be able to copy each section to the relevant subdirectory.

You will need to get this webpages published as website hosting builder allows to do them and then you need to login in your cpanel and go to file manager. You can copy this separate webpages to respective directories and then go to those directories from file manager and rename those webapges to make them index.html or index.php depending on their existing extension.

There is no way to copy the drafts builder to your ftp account. All that you publish from website hosting builder sent to your account and it shows on your website hosting. Other drafts and templates cannot be copied that way.

Ok, so I published the different sections of the website hosting, copied the relevant files into their respective subfolders. So for instance, one of the sections is located in the subfolder
www. domain.com/technical

However, I was going to install a phpbb2 forum in this section. But when I go to specify that I would like it installed in /technical/forum there becomes a problem. It only seems to like being installed in a root directory.

I would be ok with installing it in, say, www. domain.com/technicalforum , however, the problem is that I wanted the technical section to be secure from public. Now I end up having to password protect 2 directories instead of 1. This means that users will have to enter their usernames and passwords twice which is a bit annoying.

Any ideas for a work around? Thanks in advance.

You seem to be doing something wrong while installing phpbb. If you specify the installation directory as recommended in Fantastico phpbb installation then you should not get any such error. Make sure that you create a directory with name forum inside the technical subdirectory.

Fantastico wont be able to install the forum if the path is non-existent.
