Yeah Paul that is just a thumping amount to charge for a domain name in fact I must say a fully loaded web website hosting, but still domainers would call it as a domain sale after all. With that amount of traffic being attracted from the onliners I think it is worth for the person who owns it.

I also read that the current owner of dictionary.com got reference.com and thesaurus.com as gifts domains from the former owner. In this case I must say both guys are pretty lucky.

Yes, actually it was easiest to get a meaningful domain name those days coz it was initial phase of dot com arena, few domains value are so high in long-term that I think it’s absolutely logical investment to acquire few of them.

Wow! that's a huge amount. The previous highest price paid for a domain name I suppose was Business.com which was sold for $7.5 million way back in 1999.

I have got to admit whenever I need a dictionary - which is quite often

- I just type dictionary.com straight into the browser address bar as its by far the most simple, comprehensive online dictionary resource.

I just suppose its lucky I can spell the word dictionary otherwise I would never get their lol.

Yeah dictionary.com is definitely a useful website hosting and in a very simplified format which anyone can use without any hassles or navigation, may be that makes the website hosting so widely used.

I personally think that is the key to the success of both Dictionary.com and Google - normally if a website hosting starts getting popular the webmasters overload it with advertisements, get involved with dodgy yet profitable spyware / adware projects and overload the home page among others with too much information.

Simplicity, transparenty, accountability and reliability seem to be the key to both of these success stories

Market is so exploratory and uncertain that make value of such domain name so high, probably they are adding Search Engine Optimization value too. Looking through the value of dictionary.com I think business.com should not have ended up on $7.5 million worth value only, IMO, business.com looks more valuable than dictionary.com though.

Yeah, Business.com was sold for $7.5 million in the year 1999. With the present scenario, I am sure it would sell for more than $100 Million.

Ah! I wasn't aware that it has been sold again.. $345 million is a fascinating amount. They'll need a great strategy to turn a quick profit on such a huge investment which I think won't be too difficult for them.

Who actually owns business.com? As in who is the parent company? It must be one of the biggest companies around to pay that much for just the domain name, never mind all the other online and offline costs!

R.H. Donnelley Corporation now own business.com it is a directory and online local commercial search company. The chairman & CEO is also David

Seriously, I don't know how someone could even afford $300,000,000! (Let alone a company). Google, well they'd be able to buy it no worries, but its a lot of money to just dish out - especially for just a domain name. I mean for instance, aa.com, that is for an airline company, if it was used for something that is visitor-intensive and profit-intensive then it probably could sell for something. It's just weird to see such high prices for JUST a domain name. Like they say, money IS everything!

Actually these domain name comes with prestige attached also it’s other people’s money, I recall this quote "Rich People Have Big Libraries Poor People Have Big Television Sets"
