Default DNS propagation - how long does it take?

eUKhost have just transferred my site and domain name over to them, but since last night I've not been able to access my site/forums through the transferred domain name. I spoke to a tech last night and he said this was because of DNS propagation, and that it should only take 12-24 hours before I could access the site again through the domain name.

However we've now been down for over 36 hours!

I was just wondering if anyone else had any experience of this, or if anyone could shed any light on how long I'll be waiting!

36 hours is a long time - although anything up to 72 hours can be deemed 'typical'. Try your accessing your website via a proxy browser (just google for it and choose one), if it renders then it could be a dns cache issue on your local machine.

Please let me know your domain name as I would like to perform DNS lookup from my side. If you have a ticket open then let me know the Ticket #.

I don't have a ticket open as yet, I spoke to one of your techs on the live chat on Sunday night.

It's moopy.org.uk

I seem to be able to access the site using a proxy IP of htp://193.43.79.170/, but I'm sure this is linked to my old hosts, so I'm confused as to whether the transfer is complete - I'm useless with technical stuff!!

Hi Star,

I've checked your VPS to find that there's a problem with the DNS & it can be fixed by recreating the domain from Plesk.
Please open up a ticket with our VPS support dept, so that this can be fixed quickly.

Lovely thanks!

I've just opened up a ticket, the number is .

It's not from a registered account as I seem to be having difficulty in registering with the support system! I'll keep trying though..

EDIT: I've now registered an account and the ticket number is [#BCP-26157-313]

Cool

moopy.org.uk is resolving properly from your VPS now, it was added as an alias to moopy.co.uk, which was added earlier...
Now you'd need to register moopy.co.uk & point to your VPS's NameServers so that it too starts resolving from the VPS..

Thank you very much, could you tell me how I go about registering moopy.co.uk and pointing it to my VPS nameserver?

I know we used to run under .co.uk, but then about 2 years ago we switched to org.uk. As far as I understand, we don't own the co.uk domain anymore.

So will the org.uk start working soon then? Or do I need to do the above before it does?

Sorry for all the questions, this smilie was made for me ->

Thumbs up

Hi.. the org.uk domain will function without the co.uk one, but I'd recommend you to get the latter one registered, as most of your site has the same referred within it.
Also, this can be done easily by contacting our billing dept. They'd explain you the complete procedure involving into the domain registration process.

Ok, I'm going to have to hold back on registering the co.uk as yet because I don't own it myself! Someone else who used to be connected to the site has it registered in their name.

How long will it be till my org.uk is up and running do you know?

moopy.org.uk is running from your new VPS which is hosted with us. You can verify this from http://www.intodns.com/moopy.org.uk
