Default Domain Name transfer

Hi,

I have just set up a reseller account and registered a new domain name. I have another domain name through 123-reg and am unsure which way to go from here.

The new domain name at eukhost will be my web designing website, which I havent created yet. The domain name from 123-reg is a live website for my other business and is currently being forwarded to my btconnect web space. This will be my priority website and would like to host it myself through my eukhost account. So do I forward the domain through 123-reg to my public.html folder or do I transfer the domain over to eukhost and if so how? (its a .com domain if that makes a diference to transfering it)

I would apreciate an explanation on the benefits of either option. I am new to being a reseller and still feeling my way around cpanel & whm.

I will probably be a regular on the forums so hello to you all and I look forward to getting to know the regulars around here.

Regards

JD

Hello Jon,

Welcome to eUKhost forum

You can simply point nameservers of your domain name at 123-reg to the nameservers we have sent you in the welcome email. You can add a separate account for your domain with 123-reg in your WHM with us. You can transfer your data to our server and your domain name will work from our servers.

I don't think you should opt for forwarders as that doesn't look good in front of visitors. You can get the domain name transferred from 123-reg to us as recently 123-reg service has given lots of problems for other customers who have come to us and one of our customer could not change his nameservers for close to 1 month. If you manage to change the nameservers easily from your 123-reg control panel then you wont need to transfer the domain name.

Your private nameservers have started responding now. A record was needed on the server as well which I did just now.

You can try and point your nameservers to your private nameservers and if you face any problem with it then point your domain to the ns21 and ns22 nameservers.

I have configured your private nameservers in reseller center as well so your new account which you will add from WHM will show your private nameservers by default.

Default ermm....

ok I've been up most the night reading tutorials and some things are starting to make sense. I cant seem to find answers to some questions and wondered if you could answer some for me.
I might be completlety missing something here but I am having dificulty in connecting to the ftp of my second account I set up for the domain I had at 123-reg. could you clarify what the dir should be and what the actual folder root is. I have put the folder in public_html. The tutorials say the dir is specified in the email, which says /home but that doesnt work.

Also should there be something on my homepage? the ip shows the apache welcome page and I know it takes from 24 hours for my domain name to be seen on the internet so should I just be patient and keep checking? I have put my own index page on the root folder, should that be in public_html?

What will the actual root be for both domain names? I have seen the mention of .../home/... could you clarify this a bit better please?

Thanks in advance for any replies here. Will be afk for a few hours so no rush.

JD

Hello Jon,

You should upload your index page inside public_html. /home is the home directory of the server and your home directory is inside /home with your username.

You can access your website temporarily using http:// 87.117.234.180/~username/ but not with the IP directly as this IP address is the shared IP of the server and its default root points to index page of cpanel page.

For FTP you can use the IP address but dont specify any directory while setting up connection. You can manually browse into the public_html directory and upload your contents in it.

OK now I'm confused...

I went to my homepage on my PC at work and it went to a page with the folders on, dont know what they call that page (the one with "parent directory" and a list of folders) the same apeared on the address of the domain i moved from 123-reg. I panicked becouse this is a live business website and rushed home to get it sorted. I get here and everything is normal on my PC at home! still nothing at my main domain address and my other live website is still being forwarded to my bt webspace!!??!!

How do I link the domain name from 123-reg to the dir on my own server? and why isnt my home page on my main domain not beiong found?

If I dont figure it out tonight Is your toll free phone available saturdays so I can speak to someone?

Our toll free number is 24x7. You can contact us on livechat as well from our main page as its much easier for technical staff to troubleshoot from livechat or helpdesk.

What you have seen and got confused is due to DNS changes. Such strange results come only during nameservers propagation period. Wait for some time everything should be perfect.
