Domain name transfer extension question.
A customer has called me to ask me to transfer over one of his domain names registered with 123Reg.
He recently received one of those communications emails asking about the details being correct for their records.
It had this within it:-
Record last updated on 10-Dec-2005.
Record expires on 10-Dec-2008.
Record created on 10-Dec-2005.
Domain servers in listed order:
NS.123-REG.CO.UK
NS2.123-REG.CO.UK
Domain status: REGISTRAR-LOCK
Quick question, if I transfer it over to here at EUK, I assume it will extend it for a further 12 months?. From when though, the date the transfer is carried out or the date in December it expires at 123Reg?.
I'm guessing the former.....!!!???

If the domain is .com / .net / .org / .biz / .info then it will get renewed for 1 more year and the Expiration date will become 10-Dec-2009.
To transfer the domain first you need to remove Registrar-Lock from 123-reg control panel and then contact our billing team to initiate transfer of the domain. You will also need to provide us with the domain transfer authorization EPP key which should be available in your 123-reg control panel once you remove the registrar-lock.
If the domain name is .co.uk domain then you will simply need to change its IPS tags from your 123-reg control panel and make them point to "ENOM" and we will accept your domain name in our registration.

Cant see any reference to EPP key anywhere within the 123Reg control panel?.
Any ideas where to look for it in there?.

It's usually emailed to you when a transfer request is initiated.

.com and .net domains

Log into 123-reg.co.uk control panel, select your domain and click "modify domain" then use the "Domain Locking" link to unlock your domain, then use the "Change contact details" option. Ensure the admin contact email address is your email address, then simply go to your new provider and ask them to initiate a registrar transfer.

This is what I found in their FAQ's which is totally rubbish. ICANN has changed domain transfer policy for over 1 year now and .com / .net domains cannot be transferred without Transfer Authorization EPP key. We cannot submit any domain transfer request without the EPP key.
Here's what we see in our Domain Registration panel :-
Quote:
Authorization Keys are required for .com, .net, .org, .tv, .info, .biz, .bz, .us, .name, .com.cn, .net.cn, .org.cn, .cn, .kids.us, .com.tw, .org.tw, .idv.tw, .in, .co.in, .net.in, .org.in, .firm.in, .gen.in, .ind.in, .jobs and .la names
before submitting a transfer order. You have to obtain the Authorization keys from the current registrar.

Thanks m8, so where do I go from here in order to get it transfered over?.
I'm moving the 2 domains I need moved on behalf of a client who has given me the login details to their 123Reg account.
Will I need to get them to email/contact 123Reg and ask for the EPP key?.
Thanks.

I think that in 123reg, if you go the the control panel, then modify the domain, somewhere there is something about unlocking and transfering. It doesn't call is an EPP key I don't think but something like that. Unfortunately I don't have any .com domains with 123reg any more so I can't look myself.

You will need to open a ticket with them and ask them to provide the EPP key. I've tried everything possible with a friends account but there's no EPP key available in 123-reg control panel. You will need to wait till they reply

Just out of interest, does your friend have a .com domain? If not, I don't think the option appears as otherwise you'd just change the IPS tag. Then again, maybe I'm forgetting things here.... It's been a while. Lol.

Well I would say get in touch with 123. They probably just want to make it as difficult as possible for people to move domains away from them...
