Domain Transfer Process
Here is the process how the domain gets transferred from one registrar to another for .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .us domain names.
# Domain Transfer Process :-
1. Once the process starts by submitting the signup form, you will be contacted by email at the administrative contact email address of your domain name to approve the transfer. Follow the link included in the email to approve the transfer.
2. You have to provide your domain’s Authorization code. Without a correct Authorization Code provided during the domain transfer signup, we won't be able to transfer your domain name. Please contact your current Registrar to obtain your Authorization code.
3. Your current registrar has 5 days to respond. They can either allow or deny the transfer.
If the transfer is allowed by your current registrar, your domain will be transferred to us.
Domain Transfer can fail for following reasons : -
*Invalid/Incorrect Authorization Code
*Expired domain name
*Invalid administrative contact email

Just to comment, it's slightly different for a .uk domain. For this, you need to get the current registrar to change the IPS tag to the new registrar.

Just to let you know that we have started using our nominet account and already pushed major domains to the same hence, IPS tag for .co.uk and .org.uk domains would be " EUKHOST" .

The domain transfer may fail due to following reasons :
1. Domain is not 60 days old.
2. Domain is locked at current registrar.
3. Administrative contact of the domain did not respond to verification e-mail

In addition to it : For .co.uk, .org.uk domains,
Transfer requests can be canceled when Domains are not retagged at all or not retagged in time by the losing registrar
