Goodbye time for .mobi Domain Names
Apple seems to own this market since they have broken the pre-existing mobile Internet experience with iphone that has computer-grade Web browser and ad-on multi features, should we presume that the goodbye time is nearer for .mobi ?

It doesn't seem to be used all the much anyway - I can't say that I have ever used a .mobi website or know of a .mobi website. The only thing I know about them is that they are expensive comparted to others such as .com!
When browsing the Internet on my phone I can see normal web pages to a suitable standard anyway so I don't really bother with .mobi.
So yes, I do think the end is nigh for .mobi especially with the revelations of the iPhone.

Yeah and possibly more companies will come out with similar features and that would be fatal to .mobi tld.

Yes, that would be - the iPhone is definitely the beginning of the end - as well as having wireless connections and palmtops / laptops. .mobi was obsolete before it even started!

.mobi is hardly used anyway but I think it's not just about having a different extension. It's about different content that can be put on such extensions and can be geared towards people looking for specific information instead of moving around an entire full blown website.

Only a handful of those .iphone domains would be worth thousands, other than that .iphone tld would just be an expansion of .mobi.

I suppose - but even so a few thousand wouldn't go unwelcomed
.mobi is probably sufficient at the moment but with the influence Apple have got I wouldn't be surprised if they could get the .iphone tld introduced.
I'm surprised microsoft haven't had .microsoft added to the registry already .

Microsoft has already begun using .MS TLD which is actually a Country Code Top Level Domain for Montserrat, for some of their projects.

Thats not fair. What chance has a small island got (who probably have minimal computers) against a multi billion pound corporation!!
This is a definite David and Goliath situation!!
Has anyone got any examples of websites microsoft have set up on the .ms tld?

Seems their employees are going to use @microsoft.ms, I tried to find microsoft.ms but that does not load while google.ms is already existing.

I personally think microsoft.com is better and would prefer to use that than microsoft.ms
When I go and visit microsoft.ms it says "This Domain Is For Sale" - Do you think someone out there is hoping to make a lot of money .

Probably microsoft is waiting for the day some one register and they sue them to get good money rather than waiting for any good offer by parking this domain name.
