Default Help with Domain Names

I am having some trouble with dns. I have www. talinmedia.co.uk hosted here (though there is nothing there yet), and also have www. talinmedia.com, www. talin-media.co.uk, and
www. talin-media.com. They are all registered with 123-reg. The nameservers for
www. talinmedia.co.uk are set to ns7.eukdns.com and ns8.eukdns.com (which is a requirement by eukhost?), and the others have dns records set up to point to 87.117.200.71. I am not sure if this is the correct way of doing it, I am still struggling to get the hang of dns.

Anyway entering www. talinmedia.co.uk doesn't seem to result in ending up at a eukhost server. www. dnsstuff.com reports that 'One or more CNAMEs were encountered', which might be why its not working. Compare

www. dnsstuff.com/tools/lookup.ch?name=www.talinmedia.co.uk&type=A

with

www. dnsstuff.com/tools/lookup.ch?name=www.talinmedia.com&type=A

As I understand it, with Domain Registration like 123-reg, I have 2 main options. Either use 123-reg's domain name servers,or eUkHosts. When I use 123-reg's domain name servers, I can update their servers by setting up A/CNAME/MX records etc? Could someone explain why the two dnsstuff queries give different looking results? Is it because i have set the 123-reg's domain name servers differently? Could anyone point me to some in-depth dns tuturials?

Thanks

Chris

If all the website hostings are hosted here, you should use the name servers of eUKhost I think.

Well the account I have is in the name of www. talinmedia.co.uk, so I assume their nameservers are only set up to deal with www. talinmedia.co.uk?

I you want the other website hostings also hosted here, all you have to do is to change the name servers to the name servers of eUKhost and to add the domain names as a parked or add-on domain on your account. That worked for me. It isn't necessary that your domains are registered by eUKhost to host the website hosting here. By some registrars, you can enter the nameservers by yourself (two to three url's and/or ip's, two for eUKhost, see the email you get when you've created your account). By some registrars, you have to send an email to change the nameservers and some registrars even don't let you change the nameservers, in that case you have to transfer your domains to somewhere else (e.g. eUKhost) and you'll have to pay for a new registration. But it's rarely the case that a registrar don't let you change the nameservers.
Remark: you don't have to configure the DNS-records (CNAME, MX,...) by the other registrar, only the nameservers. The DNS-records have to be configured on the host where the name server is located (in this case, eUKhost and CPanel will take care of it).

Ah that makes sense. So I have made my other three domains, parked domains of my main domain, and changed the nameservers of those domains to eUkHost's nameservers.

That should simplify things in my head a little!

When that's propagated through the internet I will look again at what dnsstuff reports.

Thanks for your help..
