:: What is an ID Protect ?
:- Suppose a customer wish to Shield his Private Information that is if he does not want to disclose his contact information or wants to have any False/Fake information in the Whois Database for his domain then he can have the feature offered by our registrar " Enom " known as ID Protect. The ID protect when enabled for a domain then makes domain registration private with ID Protect & keeps the Contact Information as Private Information.

ID protect insures that your private contact information is not exposed. It is held in confidentiality and protected by the Domain Privacy Protection Service. Their contact information is displayed to provide you with the highest level of protection against spammers and identity theft.

The Owner retain full legal ownership and control over your domain name. He can sell, renew, transfer and change settings to the domain name just the same as before. His domain control panel provides you real-time access to easily manage your domain name.

The information that is displayed then in the Whois Info is a false/fake information however the email address that is displayed in the information is directed to the contact address registered in Enom.

E.g : If the contact address is " signup@eukhost.com " registered in the Enom ID Protect then the contact email address displayed in the Whois Info is just something as " asfyucfusdt@jdfghidfhb.com ", if anyone wants to contact the domain owner then he needs to send a mail to the given address " asfyucfusdt@jdfghidfhb.com " and the mail is received automatically at the email address " signup@eukhost.com ".

Note : The information displayed in the Whois Info from the ID Protect are automatically changed after 7 to 14 days.

Thanks for that Bryan. Isn't this normally not recommended for Business domains as it puts people off dealing with you because they think you have something to hide?

That could happen. But the other side of the coin is that a lot many times, evil minded netizens try to exploit the contact information. So a lot of businesses (as also individuals) prefer not to have their real information displayed in the contacts section.

As for genuinely interested wannabe customers; they would directly come to the website & establish contact

It is a good tool though.

ID Protect service is certainly not recommended for Business websites as it may send out a wrong message to your prospective clients that the people associated with the particular business are not necessarily trustworthy and do not want to be held liable for their actions.

Thats what I would think. At this time on the Internet the are thousands of fake businesses and money making scams. ID Protect on a business website would make me suspicious and it wouldn't take much more to put me off dealing with that business althogether.

Its all too easy to "steal" money off people online these days.
