Opinion on business name, please

Hi all,

I'm currently considering one of the following business names:

(a) ABC Computer Services
(b) ABC IT Services

but with ‘ABC’ replaced by another word.

Now, I have two specific questions for you about these business names:

1. Which names (if any) suggest that ABC provides computer hardware services, e.g. computers sales, computer repair?

2. Which names (if any) suggest that ABC provides software design services, e.g. database design, web design?

Your answers to these questions will help me decide on a business name, and hence a domain name.

Please, do not interpret this post as a request for new business name suggestions. Rather, I simply wish to ask what you understand (a) and (b) above to mean. Ideally, I should ask on a non-IT forum, as my customers will be non-IT, but I welcome your answers also!

2. Which names (if any) suggest that ABC provides software design services, e.g. database design, web design? Neither suggests this in my opinion. I think of back-end networking, database management or server management when I hear the term IT services and certainly not web design.

Not sure if you would like to combine both if you have something in your mind like targeting 70% for A and 30% from B group, say for example like "ukcomputerworld" that may cover both as above. Check if you like that domain name, luckily that still available.

"ABC Software Solutions" or "ABC Software Services" would be better if you are focussed on designing and development work.

"ABC IT Services" will be good to include all IT services and it includes Hardware as well as Software.

"ABC Computer services" will keep you restricted to hardware field only so don't go with "ABC Computer services" as that wont help you to expand in Software field in future.

esnail, its interesting that neither business name suggests software services (especially web design) to you.

Paul's suggestion of combining is a good idea, e.g. ABC IT & Computer Services, which I was also considering.

eUKHost suggests "ABC Software Services", to highlight software.

So, my business name list might now be:

ABC IT & Computer Services
ABC Software Services

Adding 'Software' to the combined example makes the name too long.

I like ABC Software Services, as the majority of my work is web and database design. However, this name does tend to exclude Hardware - and I occasionally provide computer hardware support.
