Default Other TLD Of Domain

How many problems can be encountered by simply taking a different TLD to get the domain that you want? I can see the possible traffic cross over being a potential benefit-but would this also leave you vulnerable to someone setting up a spoof site? Thus, if you are creating a business site can it be beneficial to buy the three big TLDs, or just the one you want?

I have bought .com .net .org .info .us .biz TLDs for my site just to be sure when my site becomes big there will be no spoof sites and I can maybe make some additional branches of the business on them.

Since domain registration fees nowadays are quite affordable, I see no harm in registering the major TLDs for your business domain name. It safeguards your business interests in the long run.

If it's a business site and the major TLDs for your domain are still available, then by all means go ahead and get all three. This is important if you want to protect your brand. Take Google and Microsoft, for example — you will notice that all three major TLDs for their domain/brand has been registered by them to ensure that their brand will remain within their control. It's sound business sense, really.

I'd buy at least the .com/.net if it's something that's more than a small side project. As for problems, I can't see that being a problem as long as the domain is not infringing a trademark.

The fees are definitely more reasonable now-I guess that's one thing to be thankful for, for all the people who decided to make sites. Ten years ago it was another story.

How common is it for spoof sites to crop up?

The more popular your business (if your domain name includes the name of your business) or the niche of your business (if your domain name includes the name of your business niche) is it is more common to expect spoof sites.

It would be a good benefit to you if you have keywords related to your website in the domain name. Hence, if you get a domain name which is related to the keywords of your website then you should choose it. However, you should make sure that the domain is easy to remember as this certainly makes a difference in the number of visitors your website would receive.
