Default Single letter Domain Names

Can anyone register single letter domains like I tried to check www. x.com that forwarded me to paypal and www. z.com so on to nissanusa, I tried to check with few single letter domains in godaddy, why it give error message; " invalid domain name, minimum length error"?

Hello Paul,

You cannot register one character domain names. The minimum character is two.

The rule says that-

1)Use only letters, numbers, or hyphen ("-")
2)Cannot begin or end with a hyphen
3)Must have less than 63* characters

So according to rules a single character domain name is not allowed.

Do you think that single letter domains are still available for purchase ?

a.com to z.com, whatever you choose you will need to pay minimum $1 Million to get it from their existing owners. If you find a 3 letter domain name then do let me know and I am ready to pay more than £4k for any 3 letter domain.

Is there a rule like that? It seems that you have missed on that one over here because 1 character is less than 63 characters so it should be allowed.
We even have examples over here like the x.com and z.com

anything like dog.com, cat.com mad.com or bad.com will do

don't make it 1-2-3.com or any combination of number. It should be a global TLD domain only.

Ok, ive had my calculator out. I reckon that there are 26!/(26-3)! = 15,600 permutations of three letters (number of possible orders of 3 letters taken from the alphabet).

But then if you include the possiblity of repeating letters (aaa, aab, aac ...) then i think the total becomes 26*26*26 = 17,576. Surely not all of these permuatations are registered?!

just don't ask me to list them all!

By now i would say they have all been registered

Look out on forums for owners offering them for sale.

So far I've not seen anyone selling 3 characters domains for less than $2500 and even in that case people are bidding. Some of our guys want me to pay £4k first and then they will put that amount in bidding... LOL

www. wwv.org/ lists all the possible three letter domain names. Yes, looks like they're all registered.

All three-character .com and, I believe, .net domains are currently registered. Three-character .com domains go for extremely high prices, especially if they possess another meaning, i.e. they spell a short word or are a commonly-used abbreviation.

For those looking for three-character domains in country-specific TLDs, I wouldn't waste your time. Most are unregistered and don't sell for a great deal unless, of course, they are common words. There are still some two-letter domains available in certain country-specific TLDs. I registered one myself a while ago (ip.vg) and sold it quite soon after. They are far more worthy of your investment.

I am surprised that 1 letter domains exist (such as www.x.com) as I had always previously thought 3 letters was the minimum. You learn something new everyday!

As for looking for 3 letter .com domains (or any other popular TLD), forget it!

I think that, in order to acquire a single-letter domain, you would be required to contact the registry and pay an enormous fee. I presume that they are intended for business or corporate use and not, as it seems to be made out here and elsewhere, personal use, simply because of the fees attached to them.
