Default SPF Record in DNS

Hi,

I am having a problem, that all emails I send to hotmail gets put straight into the junk folder on the hotmail account.

I believed this could be rectified by adding an SPF record, but no matter the variation I still get put into the junk mail box.

The current SPF I use is
v=spf1 ip4:87.117.252.187 a mx a:87.117.252.187 mx:mmwebdesign.co.uk ~all

I used the openspf.org website to generate the SPF record.

If someone could help as my client sends alot of emails to hotmail and this is loosing them business.

Thanks

You need rDNS setup for 87.117.252.187

let me know what domain name should it point back to or let me know the hostname of your VPS.

Domain name is mmwebdesign.co.uk, I have other domains on my server with different IP addresses (e.g. midlandslimos.com / 87.117.252.194), so should I setup rDNS for those?

Cheers

Yes, you should have rDNS for this ip address if you are facing problem sending emails to hotmail/yahoo. We will setup rDNS once the IPs get added in PTR records management list.

Is that something I need to do or is that already being done?

We have to do it. basically our network operations team assigns IP and they add IPs in rDNS management console but sometimes we directly add IPs as per our requirement so they dont get added in rDNS management console.

Hello,

This has been done. We have setup the rDNS for both the ip's. Kindly check it.

Thanks, can see that this has been done.

Unfortunatly, this has only half solved my initial problem.

I can send now from my mmwebdesign.co.uk emails addresses without it being blocked (as long as it is not a short message). But all my midlandslimos.com emails are still getting blocked.

Any thoughts???

This seems to apply only to Hotmail users who have recently updated to the new version on Hotmail. The new version marks a lot of mails as 'spam' or 'junk' and puts it straight into the 'junk' folder.

Thanks Jack,

That has explained alot, I have been testing with my hotmail account and Yes!!! I updated to Hotmail Live months ago. I tried it on a friends hotmail account and it does not block any of my emails.

Lets just hope MS can sort there junk mail filter before then

Thanks Again
