Default Temporary access URL & Domain Name

I have nearly completed the move of my website to eUK Host. The domain is registered elsewhere, so the website was set up with the temporary access URL provided. I will shortly request the DNS servers to be reset. However, I have no control over when this will happened exactly.

The problem I have is that a WordPress blog has been installed and I need to know whether the blog will continue to work when the DNS gets reset? If so, I'll be able to change the WordPress DB links at my leisure. If not, how can I ensure a seamless switch of host?

When the DNS propagates you will need to login into your worldpress blog and replace the temporary access URL to actual URL. You wont have any problem in doing so and if you do have then you can edit the link from phpmyadmin. If you find it difficult then we can do it for you.

Thanks for your reply Mark.

If the temporary access URL vanishes when the DNS propagates, I will not be able to login to the WordPress blog, as on installation the application embeds the host URL in many places on its DB. Switching to the actual URL in admin doesn't work as many of the links will be wrong. I've already tried it! Moving a WordPress blog domain is well documented and I would need to follow a similar procedure.

As I have little control over when the DNS will propagate, will a seamless transition be impossible? Would I be better to disable the blog until the DNS is sorted? Would you know any sooner than me when this happens?

Don't worry. I will do that for you.

So far I've done it many times so I am expert in it. If something goes wrong then I change URL from phpmyadmin.

Should I raise a ticket for this then? I think there's also a couple of blog template php files that will need embedded URLs changing, if that's OK.

How long after the DNS propagates will the change take place?

You can reply over here if you can afford to wait for my reply as per my working hours or open a ticket in our support department providing URL to this thread in it.

It takes 2 - 3 hours for dns changes this days but thats restricted to few registrar's only. Not sure who is your registrar but it can take more time depending on how the backend of your registrar works.

Mark,

The DNS has now propagated and the blog is not working. Can you please sort the problem. Also the contact page which was giving an elegant error due SMTP mail problems on your network and is now generating an ugly security failure error. There's an outstanding ticket on this which hasn't been sorted. Also, having just completed a DNS change you now want me to make another DNS change request so you can move my website to another server to address your shell access problem.

This hasn't gone smoothly at all and I'm not very impressed!

I've sorted the blog. But still not happy with the problems I've had.

We don't advertise shell access with our hosting plans but we do offer shell access on a reserved server. Our staff has already pointed A record of your domain on server with shell access but you need to change nameservers from your end to ensure working of subdomains which you will add in future.

You should see your website working from the new server now. Please let me know the ticket number for reference so that I can have a look into it.

You advertise ssh access here, so I was expecting it and was part of the decision to move to eUK. Besides, when I signed up and didn't get it, I asked for it.

I've not been able to login to the support website from the outset (ticket #EGO-93324-92, so it's been difficult to track the problems via email. I believe all other problems (and there's been a lot) are on #ESY-28089-649.

I have modified this page now for clarification as the new package comparison page is at http://www.eukhost.com/packages.php and shell access has been discussed couple of times in our forum as well as knowledgebase.

Anyways, Andy is working on your tickets and he will come up with expected solution shortly.
