Value of Domain Names
They say 3 + 4 letter domains are worth alot on there own. But what about domains with 5+ letters? For example: would a great name more than 5 characters be worth alot?

Macau.com was sold for $550,000, Jasmin.com (warning: its an adult website ) was bought for $310,000 so there are definitely still good value for 5 letters domain but the domain name should attract the buyers.

Well, It all depends on which business you are looking at. The only thing people want is that the domain name should match their business and they are ready to pay for it.

Domain names have no value on their own - its how desirable they are that makes them worth anything. Its like brick-a-brac - or any worn-out second hand goods, they are utterly worthless to most people but there's always someone somewhere for whom these items have value.

I couldn't agree with this more!
flesso, when you say "They say 3 + 4 letter domains are worth alot on there own", don't get drawn into a trap. I know plenty that are worthless.
I know somebody who fell into this trap a long time ago and started to buy any 3 and 4 letter domains. He found that he could sell most of them for no more than $8 - less than the registration he had to pay to get the domain in the first place!
With regards to flesso.com. Say for example I purchased it (don't worry, I'm not). I could hold that website for ages. Then in 25 years time when "Flesso" is the new world wide used operating system for computers and has replaced Microsoft at the top with a value of £100000000000 I'm sure I could sell it for millions.
The hardest part about getting lots of money for a domain is finding the buyer. For popular 1 word domain names its easy but even then, to get the top money you need find the right buyer.
For example a water company would pay more for the domain www.water.com than an electronics company with irregardless of the percieved value of the domain.

I was having this issue when I was looking for domains for my web hosting company. One business who was trying to re-sell the name I wanted wanted to pay about £1000 for it. I promptly took the action of adding hypens to the domain I wanted!

A domain is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I saw the sale of a 2 letter domain for just under $5000. I dont think the seller was completely wise :\

Registering a domain for long periods can help Search Engine Optimization, havn't seen this with my own eyes, but i heard Google registered a patent to display websites by registration length...something to think about

Well your obviously confident that flesso.com is a good investment registering it for 10 years!
If you make a sucess of it you will be really pleased with that investment - is flesso.com where you are going to host your current / new site?
