Website in a Subdomain needs its own Domain Name
I have a website set up in a subdomain of my primary domain, now I have decided it would be best if it had its own domain name. Its a shopping cart so it has a mysql database that holds all of the content.
I have a windows reseller account using Plesk. Is there any way it would be possible for me to give this subdomain its own domain name without having to move all the files and the database to a seperate physical hosting account? I cant find any way to give it a domain alias.
Thanks

You wont be able to do this from your end. It has to be done from our end and you will need to open a ticket for this.
If you want someone to deal with this from here then provide me with the information over here and I will have someone to take care of it.

ok, I will register the domain first and get back to you.
its for a client, after a lengthy discussion about this before we began, he decides wants his own domain now. so he will probs want to register the domain with prefered registrar (uk2.net or 123 reg i think).
thanks

Right, Ive got the domain name sorted (its registered with 123reg).
I wish to give the subdomain "rareandshare.hostedwebdesign.co.uk" the domain name "rareandshare.com". Do you require things such as the database information too?
Oh and which of your nameservers should I point the domain name to? The same ones I always use?
Thanks for helping me out

Nameservers for your new domain name should be ns1.ukhostsupport.com & ns2.ukhostsupport.com
Other question would be answered by one of our windows system admins.

Our windows system admins want the new domain name to be pointed to our servers as the new domain name cannot be added as an alias of your subdomain before it points to the server.
Open a ticket once the new domain name starts pointing to the nameservers mentioned in my previous reply.

Right Ive emailed them, although Ive now decided that I need it on its own domain as Ive not been able to access email accounts from any alias Ive set up in the past. (You can always count on me to be awkward!)
Im not sure if Im doing anything wrong or if this just isnt possible however.
Thanks again

Well I have not yet had the opportunity to compare it with any other ecommerce packages yet. It seems to work really well and is easy to set up, although I found the template/skinning system a bit confusing.
However saying that, since setting this up (which is in effect a free template I found and modified) I have started to get my head around the way cubecart templates work.
I will say that it is a bit basic out of the box, and there doesnt seems to be a very big resource of free mods and skins. I gather if your prepared to spend some cash then you could unlock its possibilities.
After Ive finished the website Im going to have a look at oscommerce as that looks quite good and there seems to be a much better community for things like support, free mods and skins. If your after a basic ecommerce package however then I cant really fault it, but Ive not explored the alternatives yet as I said.

What you are looking for is somewhat complicted so it was left pending for some research work. I have asked our senior person to take care of it personally so he should answer your ticket shortly.

osCommerce was the first shopping cart software i used, and there are some bugs (not sure if they have been sorted in more uptodate versions) but overall its good. There are lots of skins etc, and its quite easy to operate.
Support is good, they have a very active forum (been a while since i have used it) but i got a response within minutes. I was just looking at alternatives, something that basic PC users could get to grips with and start selling online.

No shopping cart is as simple as you are looking for.
Gateway configurations, currency, tax settings and many such things make shopping cart complex tool but one should not think consider it complicated for this reasons.
Its a matter of investing couple of hours and you will have a cart configured that would generate revenues for years.

ZenCart and OSCommerce can be installed from Fantastico
You can also download the shopping cart scripts from their websites.
