.xxx Domain Approved !
ICANN, the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers, which is responsible for overseeing the creation & distribution of web addresses, finally gave the go-ahead for the special or rather controversial .xxx top-level domain name at a meeting in Brussels.. a big step for the adult entertainment industry to move forward..
As ICANN 38 comes to a close, the Board of Directors approved a set of Chinese language internationalized domain names. Millions of Chinese language users will soon be able to access the Internet entirely in Chinese script. One fifth of the world speaks Chinese & today's decision increases the potential online accessibility for roughly a billion people.

This seems to be great news for many adult websites owners and their customers, for parents/teachers it will be now easy to restrict pornography to minor audience.

Hello,
Internet Pornography Statistics which states that most of the funds are spent on internet Pornography every second. Some of the objections to an .xxx domain (for instance the difficulty of legislating consistent worldwide morality) would be mitigated if the domain were a subdomain of a country-specific domain.
ICANN has undergone the proposal with ICM Registry, to startup with .xxx as a sponsored top-level domain.
The process of .xxx domains was not made public immediately. Agenda was passed over .xxx domains and discussions about the implementation of .xxx.
Regards,
Ken.

Yes, but now question is who is going to decide what is pornography before legislation? If we talk about the morality we should be rational because indecency of one person's could be perceived by others as fine art, medical sketches or even cultural illustration which explores the traditions of erotic representation.

As we may notice, many webmasters and web owners don't use a particular TLD they way they are supposed to do. DotCom extension is used not only for commercial website, .net is used not only by web hosting and other internet-related service providers, .org is used not only by non commercial organization. Can we register a domain name with .xxx exension without planning to make an adult website for the domain?

It seems stupid there was this whole 'controversial issue' deal going on, if you have a legit reason for it, you should be able to have the doamin. And you know if people did not abuse the TLD it would not have been such a huge issue in the first place.

If you're providing specialized service example- "adult hosting" as a Web Hosting Services Provider, I think you may consider to use this tld to cater well the diversified niche although you're having dotcom website.

By the way, I just visited Go Daddy and Namecheap to check whether the .xxx is available, but it isn't. Before I thought that a new TLD will automatically available on registrars once approved by ICANN.

It's still not open however you can preregister .XXX domain paying hefty price, as per ICM Registry 110,000 .xxx domain names have been already preregistered.

In order to use the reservation request process, one must hold the registration for the requested name in another ICANN recognized Top Level Domain, like .com, .net or a country code domain . That name must have been registered and in use as an adult site prior to Feb 1 2010.

Thanks for that info, I think they should remove the clause that the site must be in use as an adult site prior to Feb 1 2010. However people may try out to find loophole by publishing adult content in back date setting up blogs with the unused domain names which is registered before Feb 1 2010.

Very true, I agree with you about this drawback. But, as the condition is must in order to get the domain's reserved so registry might have thought such thing. Registry ( ICM ) would be prepared to face such condition. Domain Internet Archive can be the one through which one can check the website content's to back dates.

That sounds like a VERY saturated market. With as many xxx domain names as there are in the world, how can anyone expect to make any money?

Good question, there is always a market segment for new players those who can find an edge in the saturated market exploring new ideas.

Hello,
Well , is it true that ICANN Says "NO" to .xxx TLD.
Quote:

ICANN has again rejected the proposal, saying the company behind it hadn't adequately addressed previous concerns about how content in the TLD would be policed. What's odd is that ICANN board members said the group shouldn't be in the business of overseeing internet content, because it's inconsistent with its technical role.

.xxx TLD was rejected previously, however, in June 2010 .xxx TLD was approved by ICANN and it is said that .xxx TLD will soon be available to register.

I know you are anxious to have .xxx domain live, but for that you need to wait for more six months. Till that time, I suggest you to manage with any good looking ones ..
