A complete novice has just joined!
G'day folks
You know the feeling. No-one else wants the job of sorting out the website hosting, the head of education wants to set up a VLE , I feel I'm up to my neck in the proverbial but I HAVE managed to set up my SQL Server and sort out hosting on this great website hosting. So I think I'm feeling my way through. Hope someone else feels the same way, you can't ALL be experts!
Cheers
John

Hi John,
Like you, I started with no knowledge at all and have been muddling my way through ever since, learning as I go. And now I have my own website hosting design business! So I understand what you're going through!
The great thing about this forum is we're all here to help. No matter what the question, someone will always try and answer it (providing we know the answer ourselves!) and not think anything like "How obvious is that?!". We've all been there ourselves. I regularly read some of things I posted previously and think they're obvious now but at the time I was completely lost.
So yes, we're here to help! Ask what you want and I hope you have a great time on here!
Jonathan

Thanks for the encouraging words. As one of the over 40s I seem to learn best with traditional classroom methods, like reading etc. It seems that books seem to fall into 2 camps, simple but too simple, or technical even nerdish but how to get from one to the other. I just want to be able to use this great resource, even get excited about what I might be able to do. It's good to think there are others out there.
Cheers
John

Hi and
You guys have signed up with the right folks.
The Tech support here from both the EUK staff and the other forum members is simply fantastic.
I am also a bit of a newcomer to web design, hosting and all the stuff that comes along with that and I can honestly say I've been 200% happy with EUK so far.

I know exactly what you mean about that! I'm doing a Physics degree and you pick up one book and you're like "well that's just obvious" and then you pick up another one and you're "what are they on about?". So it's all about finding the right resource for you.
A few helpful places to look on EUKhost are:
1) The knowledge base: http://www.eukhost.com/web-hosting/kb/
2) The blog (which I try and post some userful things at a level aimed at people who are just learning): http://blog.eUKhost.com
3) Flash tutorials: http://www.eUKhost.com/web-hosting/
4) Last but not least, right where you are in the forum at: http://www.eukhost.com/forums
The great thing about the forum is (as I've said) you have other people who've been through learning curve you are currently experience and they're more than happy to point you in the right direction.

John and spamfritters - hope you both have a good time here. Hopefully we can fill in any gaps in your knowledge that you want and never be afraid to ask questions.
There are no stupid questions, the only stupid thing is not to ask them in the first place!
Hope you have a good time here .
