Usually the most useful recommendations are found in independent web hosting forums. Asking for a recommendation for a competitor within a hosting provider's own forum is not going to get you any impartial advice really. If anything it opens the door to unscrupulous VPS Hosting providers or their affiliates to post something which may take you to somewhere you'd also rather not be eventually.

To be fair, you'd probably do better to take up the grievance with a senior member of staff and see what EUKHost offer to do for you.
I can recommend many other providers who have been in business from long time but their major problem is that they never maintain backups of their VPS Hosting hosting nodes. HDD problem is major problem in VPS Hosting hosting as you make multiple virtual partitions on a single drive and some VPS Hosting's make excessive usage of HDD while some sectors of drive stay cool all the time. This creates bad sectors on the drives and eventually one day you loose one of your HDD. Most of the times whole RAID structures fails along with the drives which leaves no data on any of the drives.

You can verify my statement from other forums.

Indeed Mark, how each provider sets their systems up is transparent to the user. Experience tells me that EUKHost are one of the better hosts, I hope that the expertise and support stay at its present high standard.

The one thing that we all know is that problems happen whoever you are with.

However, there are few that provide you with a high level of service for when things do go wrong so do think carefully

I might be interested in some sort of partnership - I guess it all depends on the partners involved

So is there anyone else out there who might be interested... Maybe eUKhosts might have an idea of a few interested parties.

I haven't crunched the numbers, but would be interested in seeing what a dedicated server costs, the costs to add Virtuozzo to this, the resources the dedicated server would have (so we know how many partners we might comfortably accomodate)...

I'm now finding (although i don't know why yet) that my VPS Hosting is getting memory problems, so I need to look at upgrading it. Does anyone have an idiots guide on how to monitor memory usage on a VPS Hosting? I know I should be looking in >> Server Status >> CPU/Memory/MySQL Usage, but I'm not sure what to be looking for, and I don't want to go killing processes that I know nothing about.

Regards

Paul

Do you want me to email all our existing VPS Hosting customers to join a thread in forum and have a word with each other for such partnership ?

Hardly 2% of our VPS Hosting customers visit our forum so to get in touch with all customers we will need to email them. let me know if you have any other suggestion.

If you prefer to have less people in such partnership then our E6320 with 2 GB RAM would be more than sufficient. If you wish to have more people then you can consider x3210 server with 4 GB RAM.

Regarding the memory useage - when the red light starts flashing next to it rather than showing a green light that is when you should worry!! (as it means its at a critical level).

Sending out the email would probably make it more likely that a partnership, or several partnerships may be able to be successfully created - some people will want different thigns and additions on their server so if their are several partnerships formed from this there can be different offers from the all.

Hi Mark,

I think an e-mail would be a good idea. Not sure of numbers, configuration, etc... but I guess I'd want a group of approx 5-10 people sharing, and i'd expect they'd all want something a little better than a L-VPS Hosting-03, but for a similar cost. The main benefit being that there were less shared users of the server.

From a management point of view would eUKhosts still look after the server or would we need to do this ourselves?

Regards

Paul

You can still get assistance from eUKhost when you are a dedicated server customer as well as support.

However, in general, you are in control of your own server and many more things than you normally would be on shared hosting.

If you are looking for 10 members then our VPS Hosting plan would be better

Last months problem has alarmed our System Admins and now they have implemented many important things on VPS Hosting nodes to avoid any sort of overloading and now there should not be any sort of OpenVZ bug to bring down any of the nodes.

We are planning to come up with some low cost dedicated server solution within next 2 months so I guess it would be better to wait right now. Cannot disclose how exactly we are going to come up with the low cost dedicated servers but 2 months time is all that we need.

You would just have to go along with OpenVZ if you want virtual machines on a dedicated server. Virtuozzo itself is around $1000, add that to the cost of a dedi and it's a big bill.

Yes, it will be interesting to see the price and the features!! - As it is eUKhost I imagine they will be good value for money like the other packages.

For those that have (had) a VPS Hosting I can understand the mentality of thinking that in a dedicated server situation you might still want virtual servers but WHY? If you were to form a partnership with other users/resellers to rent a dedicated server you should trust one person to administer it (not necessarily the most technically competent because eUKhost can take care of that) but for goodness sake, get rid of the VPS Hosting mentality and start enjoying the benefits of having some reliability — use the KISS approach (keep it simple, stupid) and you shouldn't go wrong.

For anyone contemplating such a partnership I suggest you forget the idea of having it as large as 10 — if you keep it to around 5 or less you can get to know each other more easily, remain in control and avoid taking on accounts that ruin everyone else's stability. Just a few that are accountable to each other is the better way to go ...

P.S. Paul, did you receive my PM?

I think that is very good idea Roger - as eUKhost has said in the past they could keep the root details if that was what was agreed by the partnership. And yes, the lower the amount of people, the more space, resources and reliability you get. Obviously the price goes up slightly but you will see much greater benefits .

I'm sticking with VPS Hosting for now, because something is always bound to go wrong with cPanel, or I go and do something stupid. At least if that happens the server can be quickly re-imaged and I can go again with a blank canvas.

I know it's not a full partnership, but me and Thomas have teamed up so that we can both have an uptime script to monitor our servers; much better than paying for one of those other services.

Couldn't you do this with shared hosting and a dedicated server as well?

It's hard work to re-image a dedi, as you have to do it manually in front of the server. With a VPS Hosting, the support team can login to the node remotely and re-image a VPS Hosting from there.

Support could help you with the dedicated server though as well

Not at all. Once a Linux Server is online then I can sort any sort of technical problems with the server without reloading the server. I've changed OS of servers from Fedora to CentOS and Redhat to CentOS in past and also secured servers which were completely hacked and compromised.

Our people are always there to help you if you face any sort of technical problems for re-imaging is not a good option everytime.

There we go - I knew support would be able to help you out with it no matter whether you are a shared, VPS Hosting or dedicated customer.

I assume that the VPS Hosting meets your needs at the moment anyway flesso so that is why you are staying on one? Hows the stability and load with yours - other people seem to be having load problems in the other thread?
